Hi all - can anyone one help with a nusience problem I am having with a resently purchased 1997 4.0L XJ - for some unknown reason when the petrol indication is reading around 1/4 full or below the car starts to cut out at low revs - when the tank is above 1/2 full there is no problem - can anyone share a few pointers as to what could be the problem.

Maybe an incorrect reading from your fuel gauge?
When it displays a half there is pprob only a quarter, and when it shows a quarter there is prob sweet FA.

Phone a dealer and make sure the recall was done for the fuel tank sender. They all had a problem with running out of fuel on 1/4
