CJ7 Exhausts
« on: May 12, 2008, 12:08:52 PM »

Mornin, currently have two very heath robinson style side exhausts on my CJ7, obviously no good despite the glorious noise they make. so:

whats the score with replacing them?
any tips?
Cost?
and being a stupendous child, i still want them noisy

cheers

ps. i currently have 3.5 V8

 not with the jeep at the moment, and even if i was, unless its got factory cast manifolds stamped on them i dont think i would know.

its never as easy as i think its gonna be  ](*,)

if i had a look later, would it be worth me describing them?

cheers

umm if they are cast they are slimm to the block and the down pipes are inside the chasis for more options you could go for heddman hedders  in frame or fenderwell fenderwell would offer you the most options

A new thought (to me anyway), could save them being repeatedly broken off

I boxed the frame on the inside for about 18inches. Created the hole with a piece of 4" od x 3/8" pipe. The frame should be stronger than before in that section. I used a Flowmaster series 40 and butted it up to the cat

a lot of work just to put it though the chassis rail. no clearance so the engine exhaust vibrations must be great being transfered into the chassis. looks good for the road but not good when your scraping cills

Anybody remember competition East African Safari Austin Healey 3000's of the 50's and 60's ........ seen pics and a few racing in the 70's.... Had the exhaust in a cut out on the cill and lower part of the passenger door with shiny heat guard on...... looked nice..... from a distance....... bastard to live with no doubt........

slightly different line, the dodge viper has the exhausts routed through the cills, set those cills alight with the heat from the exhaust. customer wasn't too happy
