Do you think it's possible to make my own rocker panel protectors out of diamond sheet aluminium for YJ. If so do you think it's worth it?

it all depends if you intend getting stuck in enough to possibly damage your body. if so then yes it is worth protecting the tub as best you can. steel is best but heavy.

So steel sheet plate then. Does it need to be flat plate or best to have a lip on the bottom?

I used 3"x3" steel angle, drilled and bolted through the tub. You can support the entire weight of the Jeep on them, and it cost me £15
