Manual gearbox/transmission oil qty

OK, so I replaced the gearbox oil on my 01 XJ, turbo diesel w/NV3350 manual transmission. Factory service manual states 3.1 liters of oil to the fill plug. I can only get in approx 2.5 liters B4 it pisses out the fill plug, lol, yup, it's on level ground. You think 2.5L is sufficient?. My Jeep dealership sold me 75W-90 Synthetic Gear & Axle Lubricant (mopar part # 05103529EA) states it meets GL-5 specification. Is GL-5 ok in this transmission. Thanks in advance.

the manufacturer always state a "dry oil change"
by draining the oils out off the lower bung you will not get all the oil out
for that you need to strip the box
so if you have oil up on the level plug as stated in the manual drive it a bit and recheck ....if after road test level is still ok you are sorted

yup, should have read NV3550. Would like to clear something up. FSM states GL-3 gear lubricant, operators manual states GL-5. I just been reading on NAXJA about how GL-5 can cause damage to the bronze synchronisers in the gearbox. Anyone have any info on this?

quick google reviled this.......
NV3550 Transmission - MTL 70w80 GL-4 (aka SAE 5W30/10W30?) - 2.2 quarts
I've heard that the NV3550 uses Mopar 04874464, straight 30w, or Synchromesh (Royal Purple recommends their Synchromax), so I was a little suprised that the RedLine tech recommended MTL 70w80

Dumb ass that I am, i'm gonna drain the GL-5 i just put in and bung it in the front diff, take the two un-opened bottles of GL-5 back to the dealer for refund, and go get some GL-3 or GL-4. The Operators Manual is clearly WRONG.
Here's somthing I cut n'pasted from NAXJA
"Correct. GL-series specifications are not reverse compatible (like Sx/Cx specs on engine oil...) and the GL-5 oil has added sulphur as an EP lubricant. Problem is, sulphur is antagonistic to copper alloys at elevated temperatures and pressures - which is why it attacks bronze. Since synchroniser rings are sintered (pressed/formed from powdered metal,) you'll end up with the metal being "spongy" until it loses strength entirely. If you run GL-5 in a gearbox long enough (or for enough change cycles,) you'll start seeing metal flecks in the oil as you drain it - this would be what used to be your synchroniser rings. Oops..."

The 3550 uses it's own special lubricant part no. 04874464, not GL3 or GL5. The dealership should have the right stuff in stock. It ain't rocket science, even for a parts wallah. It has "NV3550 TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT" written on the label next to the part number!
