another wheel/tyre question????

OK many thanks for the suspension advice, I'm pretty set on a 2" lift OME kit but now I'm stuck on a wheel tyre choice.

Here's a recap of the scenario:  I'm doing an underbody refurb all new lines and wheel cyl drums etc.  the suspensions tired so hence the lift.  As I'm doing 95% on road what would be my ideal choices.  I'm going to run two sets one for day to day, I live in Cornwall and that involves lots of A/B road overtakes (It's the bloody Emmitts not me :evil: ).

How do standard 15's look on a 2" lift, would 16's with a lower profile suit do you think, A little vanity here!!! it'd be nice for the look to remain balanced.

As for the off road stuff I have no clue about these tyres 31" 235's these number's mean very little to me. No thats a lie I have a garage background and I know they are the sizes what I'd like to know is how do they relate to each other and how do wheel size tyre size affect each other.

Hmmmm  not alot to ask in my eigth post but any replies or links would be greatly appreciated.

OK. Tyres.

31s are inperial sized tyres. 31x10.5x15 is what we mean. Thats 31" high, 10.5" wide and on a 15" wheel.

To get 31s on a Cherokee, you're really going to need 3" of lift for proper off-road clearance.

You say you want good overtaking, that means using a tyre no greater than 235x75x15. You can't really do different sizes if you have one set for off-road and one set for on road. Off road needs bigger tyres and bigger lift, which will look stupid with the smaller tyres you need for on road performance.

Maybe 2" OME lift and a set of 235x75x15 all terrain tyres would be best.

hmmmm starts to get complicated doesn't it.  So what benifit is there in imperial over metric.

its just the size of the tyre, pros & cons for all sizes of tyre

As i said in another thread 10.5 wide tyres catch the arches of a mk2 XJ (think they are okay on earlier ones) the 235-70-16s I had fitted tucked under the arches with standard bump stops on a 2" lift. It is well & good putting 31" and a 3" lift but you have to extend the bump stops to stop the tyres hitting the arches so you loose upward travel / flex
