anti TWOC devices, what do you use?
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:09:08 PM »

Just had a phone call from my son to say 2 "dodgy" looking blokes knocked on our door asking questions about the CJ, which is parked on the street outside our house.

It got me to thinking, no door locks, no immobilizer, no alarm, old ignition barrel and I’m about £2.5k into the rebuild so I really should be thinking about security.

I’m fitting a hidden battery cut out this weekend, but would welcome any other ideas that don’t include a garage or door locks

Well if a crim really wanted it they would stop at nothing to take it including putting it on a trailer.
I would fit some kind of home built security like the battery switch and possibly something else like a hidden keyswitch for the ignition or something :-D

Or a fuel shut off even, and a pain but wheel lock nuts too!!

:imwitstupid: It might well be worth speaking to your local immobiliser place, a cat. 2 shouldn't cost a lot and might well be enough of a deterrant. Might bring your insurance down too.

I had same on my CJ,soft top soft doors,no locks,so got a big solid chain and padlock and wrapped it around the steering wheel and the brake pedal and then used one of those disc lock steering wheel lock devices to completely cover the wheel so they couldnt get to the wheel to cut it.I live in a roughish area too and had no bother, except for having the cobra bucket seats nicked one night.....the left the bases though which was nice as it made fiting alternative seats much easier

Heavy duty toughend chain and padlock, and chain the bastard to the nearest lamp post.  B&Q sell a very good one.  It's like 80 quid but thoughend thru to the core.  I got one, it's wrapped several times round my winch.  There's no way I'm letting a light fingered tosser make off with any more of my shit.  My wife's bike got stolen Sunday....

As posted earlier  ---  Heavy duty toughend chain and padlock, and chain the bastard to the nearest lamp post. or if possible concrete a big loop  in the ground for the chain and put it round the axle. Hopefully as they drive off  one less tosser around but sadly a damaged truck...

Hard wire an old mobile phone & charger into your car.
Hide it, build it in or stick it up behind the dash.

Really like the old phone idea. I heard about it from a caravan park manager a week or so ago and have already protected the familys daily drivers in this way, it's far cheaper than a 'Tracker' but obviously without the guerantee! However when youv'e found it's location go tell the Cops, 'cos the old bat/lead pipe, while far more satisfying, will get you prosecuted, knifed or duffed up by some gang of pikies!
Was also told that these thieving bastards are now pouring liquid nitrogen on chains and padlocks and then smashing them off with a hammer!
These buggers are getting more ingenious by the day!

my brother inlaw was telling me about a bloke he knew about 15/20yrs ago who was really into his motorbike's

hi lived in quite a rough area an every time he got a new bike it got stolen within a month,

the insurance would pay out then it would all happen again.

he knew who was doing it but it could never be proved.

so he bought another new bike stright from the factory un-run, drilled an tapped the fuel tank an fitted a spark plug. every time he left it pulled a plug lead off an attached it to the one in the tank.

a few weeks later in the middle of the night     :jump:

he got away with it aswell, shame that can't be done now altho it would be a shame to loose your vehicle!!!!!

I'd have paid good money to see the spark plug idea in action.  Shame he probs still lost the bike though.

And where on earth do you buy liquid nitrogen from
