New member needing help with leak!!!
« on: August 11, 2008, 07:34:28 PM »

Hi all,

I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD. I have a problem with the drivers side floor carpet always being soaking wet. I know about the a/c problem with blockage, but i dont even turn on my heating system to see if it helps.

I pulled up some of the carpet and its drenched!! I dont know where this water is getting in from. No obvious signs. HELP!!!!!

Thanks

Perforrated floorpan? Get underneath and give the floor a GENTLE poke/prod just above the cataclysmic converter (now named because it converts heat and salt water into rust).
Don't know about your Mk. of Jeep, but as the XJ is a famous rust bucket, I suspect they are all quite suseptable once the underbody protection is compromised
OR:
Take the carpet out and hang it in the garage, face it, you got to dry it anyway!
Mop up any puddles and dry everything as well as you can.
Sprinkle some chalk dust on the firewall and in the footwells, try to avoid perfumed talk unless its the wifes car.
Then climb inside and get someone to spray water vigorously round the windows, gutters, doors, wheel-arches etc.
Hopefully a little river will start to flow, follow to the source as it were and plug the hole as required.
Re-mount the drivers seat and use the car while you fix the laek and the carpet dries out, and dont forget to repaint any new metal work/welding done or you'll be doing this all again next year!

Oh, and welcome to the club!

Many thanks for your help guys. Carpet is hard to lift fully due to a plastic piece which is attached to the centre console and fitted somehow into the underside of the carpet

Does the car have a sunroof as I had been advised that sometimes there is a drain tube that become detached and it runs down the door pillers and if it becomes detached you get wet feet. If you open the sunroof (if fitted ) if not use a can opener, look at the front corners as there is sometimes drain tube fitted.

I don't mind as it reminds me of my youth living in a swamp.

Hope you find it and let us know what you find.
Sometimes you need to get inside and have a friend with a hose apply judiscious spray to the bulkhead in you case speedo entry point?

the pipe for the rear windscreen wash goes past the drivers side door

I had a leak in the back footwell due to a split in this pipe
