is it worth dropping out the aw4 and putting in the 231 (from 2.5 sport).

i know removes the 4wd ft option but the options of a SYE are better and more available.

any views as i assume some of the electonics need to be shorted to get the system to work as well

AW4? that's the automatic transmission. Do you mean the 242 transfer case? I believe the 231 from a 2.5 petrol has a 21 spline input, the 231 from a 4.0 petrol manual or 2.5 diesel is 23 spline as is the 242 on the 4.0 auto. This means your best source is from a TJ 4.0 or XJ diesel. There are no electrical issues but make sure you use the same size drive gear for the speed sensor tomaintain speedo accuracy, and get the plug for the range sensor of the donor vehicle if you can along with the shift lever gate, inkage and cosole bezel.

got the 242 in mine but have a s.5 sport being broken, just an idea if the two were interchangeable but looks like a no

barttheteaboy took a 231 and put a 242 in for better road holding i think he put a very good wrightup on birtys aswell as on the rutz he was pleased anyway and he is only in walsall

When last I heard Bart was well pleased with it, but that was some months ago so dont know if he has had any issues of late

A couple of people have done that swap and been well pleased with it. Dave - I've fitted a RE cut & tap slip yoke eliminator to my 242 transfercase and have had no problems at all with it. Running 33s and lockers for a few months now too and lots of on and off-road miles, just take time to fit it properly

And Bart hasn't had any problems and is still pleased with it

Steve at FTE 4x4 , he's a RE dealer and can get any of their range. I'd suggest you call him rather than email, although he will usually respond to specific email enquiries given enough time.
