Bloody Brakes

Finally got round to the brakes today.

Just a few questions for the Jeepy people.

Please confirm that the leading shoe, i.e. slightly thicker lining and lining covering more of the shoe goes towards the front. I think the previous owner had picked from two sets as both sides were not the same.

How do bleed the brakes without the Jeep tool to hold in the plunger on the proportional valve?

One of the pipes split when changing the brake clyinders. The local factors seems to think that yanks have odd fitting compared to UK UNF fittings. Is this the case? Is it worth getting a full set of stainless pipes from 4WD? (currently out of stock)

No need for a set of stainless brake lines (it's not like they'll rust or expand any more that the copper ones).
The fittings ARE different from the uk ones. I had the same problem with mine when i added extended brake lines with my lift, i busted a couple and could'nt get the correct fittings. The pipe work is the same, it's just the fitting and then getting the ends of the pipe flared at any local motor factor.
I found a place for the end fittings at around 80p each, so if your stuck pm me your address and i'll get some and send them to you.

yup pipe is 3/8 imp leading shoe is short to the front unions can be found at most older car stores

UNF is UNF.  No such thing as an 'odd UNF compared to British UNF'  You may need to clean up the threads with a UNF tap.....

Frost do a UNF union kit for £40 odd.  Just ordered a set for mine.....

the problem with our unf fittings is not the thread but they have a odd leading edge before the thread and for some reason it just dont like seem to work you almost want to grind the leading edge away it is somthing i have found before and gess this is what mark refers to

That exactly the problem i found :?
The thread fitted, but once you put the double flare on the pipe end, it won't go in and reach the thread (does that make sense), it's like there's to much 'nose' on it, and like Bubba says you almost want to cut/grind it down to make it fit :roll:

Picked up my brake pipes yesterday.

Rushed home from work today, jacked her up, dropped onto axle stands, shaped the pipes to match the old ones.

Do they fit? Do they BOLLOCKS. I reckon they have either used the wrong fittings or the wrong type of flare. :banghead:  :banghead:
