been quite for a while as I've been busy (aren't we all I here you cry)  Well I finally started project XJ rebuild and wouldn't you know it the pile of replacement parts just isn,t big enough!!

After completely replacing all brake lines and rear brakes and having all new front brakes and a full new suspension kit to throw on now I need both  sets of ball joints more ujoints and a steering box.

Oh will it never end!!  (I already know the answer to that)


I was going to do a build thread but time just isn't going to allow it and I can't risk ruining the digi camera with me grubby paws either.  But I will make sure I get some finished pics up here , probably in a month or so.

Just put an order in with Rusty's.  Seems like a lot of the Americans don't like the quality but I'm going to give them a try, I'd like to find out for myself.

Most of the order is for other manufacturers bits anyway and I don't see how you can go too far wrong welding two hoops onto the ends of a tube.

My XJ (now Ted's) has a Rusty's 4.5" lift. Had no problems with it at all. Easy to fit and very impressive offroad.

just to reassure the safety consious the wood is drilled and pinned together with rebar.

I work with trucks and heavy plant getting squashed is one if the things you definately don't want to happen :-(

Rusty just dropped his load!!!

Had a quick scan through it and it looks really nice quality.  IMO mega heavy duty, more than enough meat to tackle what I'll be doing.

Just got to put a road sweeper back together, change the rad in my VW and the wheel bearings on my Aunt's car and I'll be away!!!!!

Got to rebuild the front axle with new seals and joints and UJ's and I'll weld on some skids and strengthing while I'm at it too.

I'll put some more piccy's up soon.

No nice piccy's to add but the sweeper, VW and aunties Escort are all done, so it looks like I'm going to be able to get some serious work done on the XJ now :-D

Well  I'd considered asking for the thread title to be changed but it seems it's still apt.  Heres the latest little twist to keep me busy.



I wouldn,t mind but thats the side I'd recently replaced and didn't think there'd be any issue with.  I'm thinking about just chopping both lower mounts off, drilling and using a suitable 10.9 bolt.  Is there any reason not to do it that way or any other solutions to this problem.

Everything else was going pretty well, front axle back in with the new rusty's control arms.





I made one of these as well.



I'd read that the alloy spacer was a bit crumbly so while the steering box was out I thought an upgrade was in order.

Decided I'd uprate the brake hoses as well has anyone any experience with these?

I used these to makeup my custom brake hoses here in the UK: http://www.earls.co.uk The only problem I had was determining the thread sized in the fittings. They supplied metric and they should have been imperial.

Talk to David at Llama 4X4. He makes brake lines to order, any length you want etc. He uses the proper fittings to work on your vehicle and charges a hell of a lot less than you'd expect 8-)

Drove it home tonight after a tentative drive to the tyre fitters for alignment.

Few issues to deal with loose control arm bolt, can't seem to get any reading one the auto box dipstick but I think thats down to the volume of the extra oil cooler and it's a little wandery (steering)if you know what I mean.
