Just posted this question on another forum, thought I would ask here as well if that is ok.

After a day out at woodlands I noticed a squeaking, metallic sound coming from nearside wheel, expecting it to be a stone or something, I took the "Do nothing and hope it goes away"approach.
However, as always, this didn't work, so after jacking up and spinning wheel by hand, I now realise that the noise is coming from the prop shaft thing that goes from front diff, to , I think, the transfer case. This is protected by a cover, so I can't see anything obvious, any ideas what it could be?, or do you think it might go away?

Any one of the three universal joints or the yoke assembly (near t/c end) will be worn and need replacing. If you can find a local propshaft rebuilder they may be able to renovate the whole thing for cheaper than you can get the parts. Alternatively order the parts from Lighthouse or one of the other parts suppilers and do it yourself one weekend. It only needs basic tools and should be done in a few hours as long as you fuel yourself with the correct amount of tea and biscuits :wink:

After Kev removed the front prop on our TJ on Sunday & greased around the joints, no more angry sparrow noises for the rest of the day or on the way home, fingers crossed its sorted it. Will know more after some more miles but apparently it was in fairly good condition before hand so we seem to have caught it early.

same thing worked on my 03 TJ, done it twice now

you just need a needle grease nozzle for your grease gun :wink:

Just had all ujs and double carden joint changed at Mansfield 4x4 £340 :-) :-) Bargain, tried to do them myself, no chance, too old and fat, they charged approx £80 labour, done the job in no time, never used them before, but would not hesitate to use them again

strange thing is I have never seen an advert for them, seems all work is by word of mouth. Its a large site, most of it is a building suppliers but on the right as you go in the main yard there is an office with a picture of a prop shaft above the door. go in there.

why double spline slide? I'm thinking of an over length single, with the quick chat I had there is a chance of a 14" slide :lol:

just incase I ever get the shackle reversal done.

Slide on the yoke and a second slide on the prop.

Don't see the real benefit in an SYE since they don't SYE from what I've seen, they just add a uj to the end of the shaft, so why not keep the SY and add another slide?

I know your out of the way abit and its always crap when someone tells you after, but Propshaft tech in Rotherham did my dads TJ prop all ujs and carden joint £140 including cleaning rebalancing and painting the prop shaft.Spicer parts aswell

Just a thought for anyone up this way
