turbo diesel glow plugs
« on: January 04, 2009, 01:21:58 PM »

this is for all those who love pain and vm engines

glow plugs i was asked to peer under the bonnet of an xj blessed? with a vm turbo to locate and asess the location and ease of replacement of glow plugs for a mate who had borowwed it from a third party

no 1 3 and 4 look ok 4 looked a tad fidly but no 2 looks like injection pump has to come off  would this be correct as it seems rather a lot of pain for the sake of a glow plug

o how i envy you vm guys

If it's a earlier one, the type that they are horizontal - then yes pump off.

I'm waiting until I need to get the heads off

the erlier ones were classed as horixontal and the later engine has angled glow plugs.

the earlier ones are the same as the rover engine which means the pump or head has to come off, either way it can be a pain. the later mk 1 engine with the angled glow plugs are easier to change but still tight to the No.1

hmm looks a pain in the arse looks like it `cant be done without the propper tool to hold the timing gears in place and to push/seperate the injection pump drive from its timing gear  :?:

it the lesser of two evils there Kev. service the heads or try and source some tools to lock the gears on the pump
