Dual battery tips

As it says, found some guides on jeepforum (CJ7 Tech), just wondered if u got any tips (ie makin it as easy as possible :lol:)? any kits for dumbassess taht you know of? that sorta thing?

just out of interest. caravan sales will have split charging systems, as they use the car alternator to charge the second battery in the caravan and are generally a lot cheaper than 4x4 places

folks seem to spend a lot of time making there trucks complicated  i dont use split charging i run two batterys in paralel the jeep runs of batt 1 the winch is on batt 2 the paralel positive lead has a batt cut off switch [flag switch] so that i can isolate each batt from one another while winching if i wish so i know i could affoerd to totally flatten the winch batt safe in the knowledge that i can still saflely start the jeep and hence recharge the winch battery without getting stranded

conversely i have the chioce to leave them both running together if i feel its safe to do so

yup i also run two bats on spongebob for ages now with no split charge gadgets and no probs at all. i do have a dead switch for the second bat so i can run it over night for the fridge or lights without flattening the main one. works well. 8-)

keep it simple with a main isolator for when winching etc. i used a split charger when i had my beetle as it was easy to put two batteries under the rear seat. the split charger failed and overloaded the wiring which caused some severe burning.

If you leave 2 batteries connected together for a period of time in parallel they will both eventualy die. They constantly trickle charge each other, slowly killing themselves.

As long as you have a cut off swith and are disiplined in using it, its cool.

yup tis true they should in a perfect world be the same size and be as old as each other  the chances of them fighting as it were is made worse on litlle used trucks but on a daily drive should be no problem

sorry about raising a dead thread, but am just about to go down this route in my YJ and was wondering what the final out come was?

I'd like to avoid split charging systems if I can - cause I a tight arse  :003: but if there is a real benefit I may consider it.

I have one of these lying around the garage somewhere and was planning on using it



Now that you've been running your setup for a while - advantages/disadvantages or things you would do diferrently?
