Morning all can anyone tell me is it possible to fit a transfer box out of a 4 ltr to either 2.5 diesel or a 2.5 petrol all about the same year , and what if any mods does one need to do if this is possible regds Steve

The 2.5 petrol is a different box AX5 I believe.

It is possible to fit to a diesel with some modification, Bart on Rocks & Ruts did it, don't think he had any long term issues, ain't seen him for a while though 8-).

A 2.5 petrol has a different input spline count to the 4.0 and diesel.

that being the case Mike is it only possible to fit 4ltr transfer box to 2.5 diesel manual , I did have a 2.5 td se so that would have been the same would ? so it's not possible to convert a 2.5 petrol so that it can run in 4 wheel drive full time is it ?

it probably could be done but would involve xfer box input shaft being swapped.

have a look on naxja as there might be more of a detailed writeup
