Bleeding clutch!

Does anyone know if there's a certain method to bleeding the clutch?

I've been trying for nearly 2 hours and i'm still only getting a trickle coming out of the bleed nipple :cry:

Trent,dont know if its the same,but on some cars you cant bleed the brakes in the normal way and the answer usually is a pressure bleeder which screws over reservoir and connects to a tyre....Maybe its the same with your clutch so maybe worth a try,unless someone comes up with and easier solution. :idea:  :idea:

I had read that pressure bleeding might be the answer, think i will look into that a bit more,   cheers Mike :wink:

umm out of interest which slave cylinder do you have not that kin stoopid one in the bell housing i hope i personly prefer vacume bleeding and that is what i do if i have a prob

Yep, internal slave!
Looks like vacuum/pressure bleed is definately the answer then!

Check that the bleed nipple on the clutch slave is clear of any blockage.
If the fluid finds it difficult to get out of the nipple then every press of the pedal will just actuate the clutch rather than bleed through the system.

I always removed the slave and clamped it up when fitting motorcycle clutch lines or you could easily spend a whole afternoon failing to bleed it properly.

Mik, yes i been 'there' with the bikes before! :wink:

The problem i have now is that it's bled!!!!!!!!!! i think?........ no air coming out of the bleed nipple just pure fluid and i have a good clutch peddle......now the problem is i can't engage a gear with the engine running?????? it was ok before, so i know the gearbox is ok!
If i put it in gear before i start up(clutch depressed), and then start the engine,. it pulls as i lift the clutch and seems purfect, but if the engines running it just won't engage a gear..........could it need more bleeding?

Hey, Trent, why were you bleeding the clutch in the first place? If it stopped working, you have a problem. They don't just suddenly get air in them.

Mike, on the way back from ss the slave went, 'lost pedal pressure',, so i got a complete clutch kit fom the us, which included a the slave cylinder and replaced the whole lot,clutch inc the pilot!
After replacing it all it needed bleeding and thats when these problems began.
All in all it's been a royal PITA.
TBH, i feel like setting light to it :shock:

does the pedal return to the up position or does it just hit the floor and stay there,reason i ask is i had something the same happen to me and it turned out to be the thrust bearing gone through the fly wheel,expencive fix.

we also had to replace the slave units around 2yrs ago,we bleed the system by just pumping the pedal,holding it down,person under the car open bleed screw,closed it,then foot was taken off pedal,then all repeated,took a while but we got there.

the pos thrust goes well be fore the plate cutting the fingers off seen it lots of times

I've just had to do my thrust bearings, clutch plate is OK - as I stopped driving it when I got home - but could tell what it was when I got under to have a look....




Had a spare in the garage:



Then changed it, only had to pull gearbox back far enough to change it:
