what ive been up too in the workshop
« on: February 27, 2009, 06:43:08 PM »

ok been a while so heres an update
distributerless ignition is fitted (mega jolt) highly tuneable from your laptop amd no dizzy to keep dry so water no longer a problem.

note the lack of dizzy, made a blank one up to drive the oil pump.
you can also see my new home made steering pump (robed off an old fertiliser spreader and fitted with a cj pully)
a short vid of it working

this is the brains for the ignition, vacume sensor and a trigger pulse from the crank tells it when to fire what cylinder

and four wheel steer done, linked it to the steering wheel so no extra lever to mess with

rear steering set up

another short vid of the steering

£150, plus some wire, coil packs, trigger wheel, and crank sensor. coil packs off a scrap mondeo crank sensor off a fiesta cost about £20 from a scrap yard

What have you to control the rear steer - is it from JCB or the likes? how does it perform on the tight and twisty bits?

no control valve as such, its a bit difficult to explain, the system is essentially 2 halfs one half is oil trapped bettween the front and rear rams, as the front ram is pushed one way the oil is pushed out the other half of the ram into the rear to steer the rear and vice versa. i have a tap in the cab to let oil into the captured side of the system to allign the wheels or make it crab. basicaly open the tap set the rear wheels in line with the fronts, close the tap and they will then steer opposite to the fronts on the steering wheel.
as far as performance goes, it takes a little getting used to but once you are its ace. makes tight twisty bits alot of fun( something i used to dread) leave the difflocks in permanant now

Yeah I have been in a rear steer buggy the phenomenon was quite unnerving - like what you are doing very functional.

Good luck....

Cool, looks like you could turn it around in one of the smaller countys now!!!!  :finga:

The really scary thing from the vid of it in the yard is that it now looks totaly in propotion.

Which means something else, even scarier 44"s are now "normal"

Well I'm impressed Jono. Just to think 10 years ago 44s would have been considered a 'Bigfoot'
Now Your King CJ looks totally normal, and in proportion.....................

But wait..... that second manoever across the gully was similar to the roll that I rescued you from at Cheapfest??!!

Or maybe I should quit with the biblically large 5 skinners!  ............... Exhales................

Great engineering mate, I am well behind with my plans still collecting parts!!!!!

cheers Jez
