Backspacing

I'm about to install a 3" lift to my XJ and am now considering replacing the wheels with Cragar soft 8 blacks 15 x 8 and 31 x 10.5 tyres. I have been advised that the wheel in this size has a choice of backspacing, either 4.00 or 4.75 inch.
Would appreciate any advice re rubbing and legal sticky-outy issues. :prayer:

4 inch if you still want to steer.
