I am sick of not being able to get out of muddy places and having people say "you'd have done it with muds on" so, I want some muds.

The question is which ones to buy.

I know I want 31x10.5R15s, road noise is not a factor cause I shall put my AT2s back on for majority of the time. I don't really want remoulds.

I have pondered Simex MTs, Silverstone MT's and Cooper Discoverer STT's.

I am driving Greggmo crazy, so can I have some other's opinions please

I can get the Simex for £69 + VAT that is about my limit.

Kumho's Road venture MT look ok.

Colways are top, plus you can tell the tree huggers you run on recycled tyres.
I only run on colways/westlakes now, was a BFG man before but there is no difference except the price, some info on them in the reviews bit on my site

Mytyres are doin' BFG muds in 31.10.50.15 for about £94 inc. VAT and delivery.

Why no remoulds?? Bronco do some really aggressive ones for that kind of money. Baja Claw for one.

Silversone extremes look good too. They're both Simex Jungle trecker copies.

For Colway or Greenway retreads Sowden seem to be the cheapest. Also, they are not VAT registered, so no VAT to pay. :lol: :lol:

Simexs are superb in the mud....horrible on road, wouldn't recommend them for a daily driver

IMHO stay clear of the Goodyear MTRs. At Prew's this summer was following a heavily mod'd TJ on them (Long Arm, ARBs, all the toys) and he had to winch himself up climbs I made in the TJ (on BFG MTs) and an XJ cleared no probs. He's now changing to Pro-Comps.

I ran MTR`s on my XJ and i find they can tend to slide around very easily on slight mud and grass although they were pretty good on deep stuff and anything hard and rocky,but i think a lot of it comes down to personal preference and also the size of your wad.There are now plenty of remoulds and cheap tyres that are very similar to the likes of the BFG and even if not quite as hard-wearing they work out just as good a value for money because they tend to be around half the cost.Kumho,grizzlies etc all seem to use a similar pattern to more well known makes so must in theory perform similarly well offroad,but they probably wear down quicker :roll: :roll:

I wouldn't ignore Colways.

The tread pattern is based on the BFG MT, but are half the cost.

I've not heard anything bad about them, they are good on road and very good off.

Plus they are guaranteed against manufacturing defects, cant be bad.

A friend of mine put Colway MT's on his *cough* Jimny and they were pretty impressive.... we threw a lot at them doing a particular job at the time that involved a lot of muddy river banks and beds and it did very well and did the 160 mile round trip from the office everyday on the motorway.....fecking noisy though!!

I was going to add that Horobi, Colways are noisy. I still think, cost aside, that you can't beat BFG Muds, quiet, well mannered on the road, not as good in the mud as Simex (but then what is?) but none the less very effective - I've just put a set of 35 x 10.5 x 15 Simexs on the TJ and in all honesty I think I'll end up swapping them out for BFG MT's - Unless of course you're the buyer of my Simexs in which case best tyre ever made and not that noisy at all ...honest guv :lol: :lol:

Nowt wrong with Goodyear MTRs, just get the pressures right and crack on. They're on a par with BFG M/T off road, quieter on the road, can't comment about longevity yet. I've run MTR, BFG M/T and Cooper SST in the past, they're all good. The Grizzly is great as long as the tread stays good (wear out quicker than the new tyres).

I've just debated this with myself and ended up going for the BFG MTs. I got them from www.mytyres.co.uk for about £93 each.

I also looked at Simex MT and Cooper STT. The Simex tread felt very soft and the Cooper new pattern looked really good but cost more than the BFG from above.

It's a personal thing and moving from some well used and worn ATs I'm expecting to notice a difference regardless of brand.

Done a 2000 mile round trip on Colway MT 31/10.5/15s on the Cherry - cruisin' at up to 80/85 mph in Europe - no worries. Good cheap tyre and not too bad as a daily driver - they cut up in the rough stuff a bit (relatively soft compound) but at the price I don't worry.

Recent convert to Grizzly Claws though, too - horrible on the road, but brilliant in mud and rocks! Look the biz, too - very nasty. :twisted:
