Interior lights won't go out.
« on: April 02, 2009, 10:02:59 PM »

Well, introduced myself, so I guess I can get down to some serious assistance requests.

My main problem at the moment is that my interior lights won't go out. Parked the beastie up in the compound last night, after giving 'er a scrub. Went to start her up this morning and the battery was flat. Once i'd jumped her I found the reason. Those damn lights.

I've checked all the stalks on the door frames, all going right the way in, pretty smooth operation all round. However, due to my inexperience with that heavy steel tailgate, I accidentally slammed said tailgate really hard. After taking the inside trim off, i've come to the conclusion that the switch thingymabob is on the lock mechanism (i can see the vacuum pipe for the lock, and a small oval connector with three wires coming out). I'm wondering if i'm right in this assumption, and if so, whereabouts can I get the replacement part?

Oops, almost forgot, it's a '98 XJ cherokee 2.5TD sport.

You can twist it? I didn't notice if it twisted. I was too busy pulling it out, then pushing it back in, all the while marvelling at having such an cool contraption fitted to my dash.

I'll give it a try tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Can only work on it during the day since she's kept at work till I get insurance.

Any other suggestions I can try out while i'm at it?

Try twisting the knob on the main light switch.

As the man says, twist the headlamp switch to brighten or dim the dash lights, twist it past a stop & it puts the interior lights on

RTFM   JK
I had a look at the manual, but I must have missed it. I was trying too hard to find out which fuse to remove to keep them off for the time being.

If that solves it tomorrow i'd better change my screen name to donkey.

Yayy!! \<img src=/" title="Dancing" />

It worked old druid, it worked. My battery is now safe from flatness. And I can now stop worrying about whether my monster is going to burst into flames (those bulbs get HOT).

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.

Actually, no. Cherokees do have a battery drain on them, which varies from car to car.
Some will flatten a battery in a week if left standing. Just make sure you check it
regularly.

Try twisting the knob on the main light switch.

I have just posted my own woes about internal lights not going out as a search didn,t reveal this thread.....I shall now go out and twist my knob.....as opposed to pulling it as i usually do....
