Sodding oil leak

As posted in “workshop” I have just changed the rear main crank oil seal, like for like i.e. a single bladed seal. After 50 odd miles the leak is back just as bad :evil:  now the old seal was so hard it could have been made of metal so I was wondering could it have grooved to crank? Also I have read about 2 bladed seals, anyone know where to get a set from?

Or is there somewhere else the oil could be coming from? Its not the rocker cover that’s dry.

Have you checked the PCV is not blocked? Thats if you have have one!!! not sure on your engine.

there wasn't one fitted when I got it but did order and fit when I got seals, but not sure its fitted right as.

PCV is in rear gromet on rocker cover with a vacume pipe from inlet manifolt to small side of T piece, and the larger side of T seald shut (it is air tight). on front gromet I have a mini 'K&N' type filter, not into main air filter as no where to fit it.

Your description appears to be correct - did you check for "crank end float" when fitting the seal? And have you checked when hot also? I'm guessing here but worth a long shot...

job was done over a few days so cold while apart, and didnt check endfloat.

should I be able to feel a vacume while running say by putting hand over open oil filler hole, cos I cant.

No pressure/vacuum is a good sign - you can check the "end float" from the front pulley....

did you lightly oil the seal before you fitted it?, is it in 100% square? will I tell you where my scrambler is hiding? :wavefinger: ,not sure about this last one but is there an o ring in the flywheel side of things ( there is on a vw and I know so many people that changed crankshaft seals only to find it was the '0' ring in the flywheel thats the problem....
