Got the carpets out for cleaning and clean out the foot wells. There is a bit of rusting where the paint has been scratched through by wires and little stones (there was water in the drain plugs and moisture was trapped under the carpets). I'd be a good idea to paint the foot wells with something that will stop rusting and prevent scratching. Any recommendations?

Remove all carpets and seats and use bed liner

Used wax oil once

as usual, scared of anything that comes with instructions lol  

but in this case I would use a paint with built in rust inhibator like rustolium or hamerrite as it will be hidden by the carpet

Did some googling and Plasti Dip came up. Looks good and cheap. Anyone heard anything about it?

Swimming pool paint is barrier paint with limited adhesion and no rust inhibitors. So if there is any water ingress, like around drain holes etc, it can’t get out and will rust under the paint, if you do want to use it for its wear and finish properties then use a good quality red oxide primer like Rustolium.

yep, basic tinned stuff you get in B&Q for metal gates etc

Hammerite it is, I'll just pop down to my local Homebase tomorrow. If Homebase hasn't got Rustoleum any other primer I can buy instead?

Would be nice to get it all done tomorrow while the weather is hot.

just remember the painting is only 20% of the job, the other 80% is preperation, get that right and its a good job, should a good few years

Just had to do my TJ's.

The drivers side was affected; all other areas were fine. I think this is because I use the TJ to launch my jetski a lot; & get into it covered in sea water; so its not uncommon to have a collection of water in the husky mat. Some of which finds its way through the carpet & is compounded by having the mat there.

I rubbed mine back (wire brush, grit paper etc); used rust converter, primed & resprayed as original.
In the next few years I'll truck bed line the whole tub; even then though the paint/surface has to be in good order as its just a coating & won't fix any rust problems.
