Will an OBD2 Scanner read any different engine management error codes to those I can find using the usual method via the odometer?

I’ve still got an occasional misfire on my TJ. So far I’ve replaced:
the plugs,,
the distributor cap,
the distributor rotor and
the up-stream O2 sensor.

The misfire seems to be totally random. It happens whilst driving on a very light throttle, under acceleration, whilst pulling away gently and I’ve also had the engine popping back through the snorkel. I’m not getting any error codes showing up via the odometer and I’m also not getting the Engine Management Light on.

I’ve searched around on the US JeepForum and there is plenty of talk about using the OBD2 Scanners to help pin-point this type of problem, but I’m not sure it will work on my ’97 TJ 4.0.

You got a spare TPS you could try on it?

if you got an obdII port yes, it could help if the problem occurs while it is running and plugged in.
(ps don't buy an obdII lead to connect to your laptop, i got one,never worked yet)

Nope! Have you got one I could borrow?

I've also read it could be the CPS, MAF sensor, a dodgy injector amongst others.

I have one, dunno it it will fit tho, off a 95 4l XJ, how many pin plug is on yours

Well! I decided to buy one of the cheap scanners off ebay but it didn’t show up any new error codes. :wink: )

So I did what I should have done months back and I replaced the plug leads; it’s now running as sweet as a nut! :-D

If anyone in and around the area who wants to use the scanner for diagnosis and/or reset the dash warning light, then just give me a shout!
