WJ axles into an XJ
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:43:27 AM »

Any big issues I will find?
Found a pair cheap, and was planning to regear my XJ axles but this way I will get better brakes, a D44 & decent steering all in one. I know I will still need to regear & sort out the spring seats & shock mounts on the rear, but what issues will I have on the front end?

Sorry

Basically its the guy who drives monska

He needed a new back axle for his zj  and had an axle for an xj

so he dut the tubes off the zj axle and welded them onto the xj axle

way above my know how but there must be people on here who can do stuff like that

No benefit me doing something like that.

D44 in the back should be easy enough with leaf spring platforms to weld on. More interested in what issues I will have on the front end.

The hubs are 5 on 5" so your wheels won't fit for a start, and they need to be 16" to clear the front calipers. The rear diff pumpkin is aluminium so can be a tad fragile. If they're Vari-Loc axles you get a variable limited slip both ends but parts for them are difficult to come by. You get big disc brakes all round. The front knuckles are high steer so you will have to rework the linkages. The ABS sensors might not be compatible with your system.

Wheels, knew that, also pumkin. Steering I think I will need to use a shortened WJ steering link. ABS..hmm, anyone know if the abs tone rings on jeeps have the same tooth count front / rear?

going 4.56 anyway.

Front end swap maybe more hassle than its worth, may just do the knuckle conversion with WJ outers on a XJ axle and look at a KJ 8.25 rear axle  :-?
