Help I've lost reverse Gear!!!!

Ok was driving home this evening & come to reverse into my drive & NOWT!!!!  engine revs but I don't go anywhere ( Well not backwards anyway!!!)

It sorta "Feels" like it wants to but doesn't if you know what I mean

Any bright ideas lads????? Sorry should have said Grand Cherokee ZJ 98 S plate

"i'll put it into reverse then go and have a look" springs to mind. cue gearbox dropping into reverse and driving into some inanimate object

OK my thoughts are its possibly the NSS just a guess you understand......

Wont be the NSS, that just stops the thing turning over/operates light etc.
Take a gander at the gear linkage on the side of the box, it it getting full travel, could be out of adjustment/slipped etc

Back to the question....... Check the oil, but even if it's got a major electrical fault it should still go into reverse, so it's probably pretty broken. I'd get a local transmission specialist to have a look at it.
