Ignore them two  :-D   It's an urban myth that they don't work. Mine works perfectly......

You can access the wiring by wriggling under but probably easier to pull of the dash plate.

Sender unit inside the tank is notoriously bad. More likely to be that. The float has a habit of becoming holed, fills up with fuel and sinks to the bottom.

Also check your earth from the sender is good. If your water temp gauge works then your fuel one is probably ok, they share the same power, wired in series.

the fuel gage contains a constant voltage regulator in it this is often the fault that i have found in the past but as ric says this problem would normaly nock out the temp gage too but they are meant to be changed as a pair but you can get away with only one it dont matter to lard as he can get 35 mpg out of his cj7 and panics had the same 3 gallons in his for four years

I've got a couple of gallons of LRP and a handfull of rust in the bottom of my tank too - been there at least 4 years so should be quite collectable!
At least the gauge says its still there, and there is no empty sounding "BOOING", when I bash the tank with a mallet.
Would Antiques Roadshow give me a price per litre do you recon?
