gota say it ran mainly thanks to Bubba.

only run for 30 seconds or so, no cooling system fitted yet nor exhaust and a couple of small fuel leaks and a stuffed solenoid to sort but sounded like the sweetest music ever.

did make me twitch when we spotted the fuel leak as at that time there was foot long flames coming from the exhaust ports. all in all a good weekend of Jeep fixing

so you haven't seen footage from santa pod or drag racing then ?  they do that all the time, no flames cause for concern

wasnt the flames that worried me it was the petrol gushing out of the fuel pipe inches away from said flames that made me twitch :jump_125:

petrol dont burn it's the fumes you got to worry about,

been there, welding on my old beetle. inside went up, lucky i had two 2ltr dry powder extinguishers to hand, yep you can't breathe that stuff and i needed 1 and half of the other to put it out. lucky for me i took the origional seats out

got the new clutch linkage fitted, feels like a new cars clutch peddle now :icon_biggrin:

old solenoid definitely shot, took it apart and was full of rust. fitted a new solenoid, but not quite right yet. turns over OK if +&- applied to terminals but if i try and start on the key it turns over but starter doesn't stop spinning when key turned off.

had a chat with the auto elec where i bought the solenoid and of the few causes he suggested I recon the most likely is the alternator, we had trouble getting the plug in due to bent terminals and it's the unit that came with the engine so has been sat in a field for 8 years, still have the 4.2 alternator which i believe is the same so will fit that tomorrow and see what happens.

think the fuel leak is fixed, new pipe and replaced a seal, done some asking around on the solenoid and am now sure the pattern part is not compatable, correct part ordered from Lighthouse.

Rad is at mates workshop having the side bracket brazed back on, so with a bit of good weather might get front bodywork back on this weekend.
