just started to notice this last week, whilst driving, when you brake at the lights and you let go, the car
tends to move forward, but it seems very slow to move on and needs alot of pedal power to get moving
yesterday was towing our horse and going is fine, car auto box changes up over 50mph to 1.5k revs normal,
but going home this did not happen and the revs were about 1 k higher then normal on all speeds, idles ok.
[ as if the overdrive button is turned on ] but car not changing up. also near home coming to lights, found the
same thing happening, loss of power and needs alot of pedal to get moving.
any ideas ? anyone had this before ?
thks
p/s - seems to be when the jeep is full of passengers or when towing / could it be an intermittent fault somewhere ?
-
Tis an odd one mate
Hopefully a post Mac event Doc may have ideas...

is the autobox fluid level ok?
-
yup check the leval and see if fliud does not smel burnts scorched
-
When my brake caliper jammed I had a loss of power & it wouldn't change into 4th gear.
-
where do i check this ? [ autobox fluid level ] - good idea.
haven't checked any fuilds for over 2 years apart from engine oil ! also would know where to start checking the others.
also where can you see if the caliper is jamming ? or can kwit fit check this for me ?
thank you
-
up by the drivers bulkhead, on a 4 litre the autobox dipstick is next to the engine oil one, needs to be chacked with the gearbox warm & the box in N
Sticking caliper, jack up each wheel and rotate (brakes off of course) any tight spots should show up
-
thats all good stuff, thank you all
will check it out at weekend
-
right i started the jeep and left it running and i checked the transmission oil dipstick....................and there was just a blob of oil on the dipstick !!
is this how you check it ? another question........where do i top up the oil ?? i had a good look around and could not see anything, do you top it up
pouring the oil in the dipstick hole ? ? :icon_biggrin:
if i did not start the jeep and check the dipstick...........it is at the max level. [ with jeep not running ] so does that mean it is ok ?
how long on idle before i check the level ?
confused ?!? lol
-
Check it hot (and that means drive it for half an hour) and running in neutral or park on a level surface. Top up through the dipstick tube with ATF+4 not Dexron or Mercon

i bought castrol ATF TQ D111 is this ok ? so if i run it hot, do i top up whilst the engine is running or turn engine off ? thks
-
No you need Mopar ATF+4 or equivalent, you've bought Dexron III. Add fluid with engine off.

guess halfords dont stock that as i bought the dexron, is mopar only available from jeep dealers ? or online ?
thanks for your help.

Only Jeep dealers I think

sounds a load arse to me

??

o sorry i was just commenting on the fluids some manufacturers insist it must be our grade this or whatever they say
-
i have put in nearly 3/4 ltr of fluid. - as i was pouring it in and checking it after starting the jeep and in neutral the level dont seem to be going up.
jeep is warmed up and checked level when engine is hot and in neutral with engine running - its at the min level.
turned engine off and checked the level is at max level
is this correct ?
also what axil fuild do i need to top up with on the diffs and is there a step by step instructions here of how to clean the cover ?
also is the rubber stopper on a dealer supply ?
thanks.

Look here for all your fluid needs..... http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=8091.0 (http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=8091.0)
It's a sticky at the top of the tech issues forum.

Think me rubber stopper has issues...
-
is it alright to use this to top up the transfer case ?
Mopar ATF+4 or equivalent or Dexron III
can it be used on the axles front and rear [ is this called differentials ? ] or is that a different oil ?
thanks

"i bought castrol ATF TQ D111" is this ok for the transfer case ?
-
I think you can use Dexron 3 instead of 2 but not the other way round.
Best wait for a proper techy to answer you to be 100%
-
Yes you can substitute DIII
-
Yes you can substitute DIII
thank you.
i got some gear oil from halfords and topped up the rear axle [ oil was quite clear so i thought that would be ok to top up, instead of draining it ]
i then managed to top up the transfer case with the Dex 3 , after i found step by step instruction videos on utube.
[ put in about 200ml so hope it wasnt too low to do any damage ]
couldn't get the front axle nut off as my allen key did not fit so leaving that for next weekend.
does anyone know what size allen key it is for the front axle ?
thanks
-
right i have topped up all the oils and its still not changing up, also the overdrive button dont seem to work either.
it used to increase/reduce the revs when it is switched on/off. any ideas ?
there are any fuses to check ? or is ti something more like gearbox / transfer case prob ?
thks

Is it stuck in 2nd gear? If it is it's usually a pressure sensor inside the transmission at fault. A dsiagnostic scan at a dealer will confirm.

i think you maybe right. Governor Pressure Solenoid and Transducer ?
i found this http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=350038&highlight=governor+pressure+transducer (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=350038&highlight=governor+pressure+transducer)
now will ring dealer or lighthouse for a price.
thks

i shift down to 2nd manually and it does change down and when i shift to drive, think it is stuck on 3rd. anyway do you think it is better to have diagnostic ? and will it show up as an error ?
i dont want to buy the solinoid and it is not that part that's faulty. jeep wants £70 to do a diagnostic !
-
Thievin' bastards, it takes 5 minutes to plug the machine in and get the codes off. Sneak round the back and offer one of the techs a score to do it. You normally replace the governor pressure sensor and governor pressure solenoid at the same time as it is one of those jobs you don't want to do twice. The transmission is probably in limp mode. If you disconnect the battery it willl clear but probably shut down again pretty soon.

how much are those machine ? if i do keep the jeep it may be wise to buy one !! :)) i seem to be getting a problem every year so it seems !!
what is the most reliable 4x4 ? [ given that they do go wrong now and then ]
-
About 2 grand.

About 2 grand.
:jpshakehead: shite ! :icon_biggrin:
-
no 2 grand
-
guess what !............... the auto box seems to be working again and i have not done anything to it.
does anyone know why was not working and now is working again ? if it was the sensors,
surely it would not work at all.
any ideas ?
thanks
-
No idea. probably electrical though.
