-
well one holiday and helpin ww in the garden later i managed to rebuild me rear axel yesterday a result at last it has been on the axel stands for over a week lookin ok for cheapfest yust a few eletrics to sort now must try today to get me cb wired up and me spot lamps o and me trailer socket how often do you check your wheel bearings folks this is realy just cjs i reckon o and lardys and mindys not often enough is my gess yester day a frend asked me to check somthing on his jeep i had a look to find that the front wheelbearing had been replaced a while ago by a garage who fitted it corectly but never put any grease in the hub just what was on the bearing out off the packet my mate trusted the garage so was amased to find it had been picked up on the mot on the bearing it only took me a short time to sort out i had got some well gresed shand ones lying out side the garage so cleaned them regreased them slapped it all together with more grease and all was well with the world again if you got a cj go out and check they should be checked and regreased every so often pack em full of mayo if you dont got no grease but dont let em run dry
-
wheelbearings.............. pack em full of mayo if you dont got no grease but dont let em run dry :applaudit:
That's gotta be 'top tip' of the month............ it really should be in the next issue of jp mag
-
Being the friend with the greaseless bearing all i can say is never trust a garage. If in doubt ask the man who knows ( bubba )
Thanks mate i owe you one.Jeep goes in for re-test on Wednesday so i have my fingers crossed.
-
I have my fingers crossed too.
-
CHEERS
-
dont worry mate
-
Me too
-
Whilst we're on the subject, is there a simple way of getting grease into the bearing or do you have to strip it right down?
-
stripping is the only way to do it properly
then lube that sucker up
-
Good advice, but not quite the sort I was looking for.
-
-
what ever turns you and bubba on WW.
-
well the new cj seems to be seteling in ok managed to do a couple of miner jobs on it still have a few on me scrambler to do but nothing to stop me using it for cheapfest must get stuck in to welding my other scrambler up so that i can build a monster my smashed scrambler has at last been collected by the insurance peaple so that is on les jeep to wory about now ther is only 5 cjs here it was 3cj8s and 3cj7s next year may look in to importing a few parts for folks and maybe a fitting service on a very small scale may be a pipe dream but we will see
-
Dont dream Bubba
If anyone can do it, you can.
Yous da man 8)
-
Glad to hear you're keeping busy Bubba!
I recon you'd get a lot of takers for your importin' and fittin' service, you're probably the only person I'd trust with my CJ. I'll be your customer....
-
Bugger!!!! Now I want a CJ!!!!!
-
Bubba, I may have some work for you in a few months on a TJ :) If you are seriously up for it, and I don't pay too much SWMBO tax and the job works out....

-
been a while since last update work and family sure keep you busey v8 conversion was done and hopefully will be on the road and at an event soon a well known giant killing yj has been back for tweeks and a clutch problem now just trying to re mot the scrambler but found a lot of welding work needs to be done so much for the full resto that was claimed to have been done in the now defunkt jeepworld mag [lots of fiberglass] and filler underneath a wooden deck in the pick up bed the welding is slowely gettin done ta lardy while i am sorting some mech stuff it is getting bubbarised and after that is done i want to make the ell heapo [gt] in to a anti hero offroader
-
'Anti Hero'.................I like the sound of that.
-
ya wanna sack the welder... looks like next door,s pidgeons have been in there.

-
put the kids seats in too
-
well had me a bit of a problemo thurs night i was just burnnin of a imprezza turbo with the gt i was smokin the tyres and just dropped it in to fourth and bang no drive shit i did think i had sheered a drive shaft but could not see a thing wrong so i drove home the last mile
the gear box was moaning worse than ed about 4wd so i got home had a think and went to take round the back to the workshop and bang no drive luckley lard had come over and was behind me so he just pushed the gt with his jeep round the back got under this time to see hole in the back of the transfer case BOLLOCKS
-
Hope you get the GT sorted soon mate. Me thinks you may have the required parts has we speak.
-
yes mate had a look around found it might be cheaper to try and buy a complete truck than just buy a gear box so thats what i did found one local on ebay put in a bid and won
-
did a few jobs on me scrambly today fixed the cb fixed the radio so i can have me some sweet country tunes
made a kickdown cable adjusted the bands in the auto and fixed me wheel swing out and modified some steps to work with the side pipes
now the next thing is to take out the 2.5 non turbo deisel and smashed gearbox out of the gt [ell heapo] and the fit the new 2.8turbo deisel and new gearbox that is after ripping the e bay truck to bits
-
Is the gearbox a diahatsu item then?
-
in ell heapo yes engine and gear box from a f50 the same gearbox is used in later daihatsues so i am fitting the later turbo unit that happened to have a brand new gearbox the original engine n box were from a 78ish and this one is an 89 and ell heapo is an 82 the daihatsu cost 360quid off e bay as complete running moter i drove it back to the ranch i hope to do a bit to it this weekend
-
gonna close this thread so this will prolly be last post is a bit to boring for all those out there with newer motors they wont want to read about keeping old cjs on the road
-
dont do that 8)
-
Not everyone is as daft as us, pissing about endlessly with old CJs. :headpop:
-
its ok then,
that we piss about ENDLESSLY with old yj's, tj's, xj's, zj's and kj's
-
gonna close this thread so this will prolly be last post is a bit to boring for all those out there with newer motors they wont want to read about keeping old cjs on the road
dont do that mate, tis nice to read about this stuff...........reassures me that i aint the only one feckin around with me truck for hours at a time!!!
-
Kev You got to keep it going....please mate...
-
gonna close this thread so this will prolly be last post is a bit to boring for all those out there with newer motors they wont want to read about keeping old cjs on the road
You feeling OK Kev?? :?
-
Keep it going, I might have anewer motor but I dream of V8s and having a proper workshop to fab all sorts of redneck creations (no offence meant Bubba, I'm sure you understand).
-
I wanna hear about the old CJ repairs, this is my favourite thread.
Original reason I joined birty's is because none of the other clubs had much of a clue about CJ's, well that and a whole bunch of other reasons.
Keep it up Bubba.
-
This is a good thread- keep it going!
Its always good to see when its been updated and to read what the next creation or mod is to hit the trail!
-
i don't read tech posts very often, but when I do I always read this one. I know I am selling my cj but not because I want too ( I have too).
Some write up's do apply to other jeeps too, DON'T CLOSE THIS THREAD
-
-
its been a busy day in the workshop today for sure. fuckin hot too.
-
Certainly been hot. Thanks guys for your help....really appreciated!!!!!
-
Did ya get ya weldin done 8)
-
Good old Greggmo did the welding and the equally generous Bubba helped to sort out the running problems.Still not 100% but it seems to be improving as its run so we shall keep fingers crossed
-
a tad more tinkering needed but it now runs on 8
-
i am gonna try to make a start on the gt this week an get the turbodiesel conversion done so i can go froadin again
-
I drove to N. Humberside the other day to pick up a spare gearbox and trannie. So this week's task is to strip out the spare trannie, take out the shifter rails and build up my trannie using the donor rails. My trannie is in component form in a box right now.
Now if I could just get the clutch sorted.........(next job!)
-
turbo gt update........whilst waiting for carpet muncher no4 to arive [now late] must be a girl on sunday avo i managed to steal a spare hour or two so i towed the gt in to the workshop not easy on ya own but dang sombody gotta do it hitced up the doner daihatsu to the gt with 6 feet of chain and slowely towed it out from the side of the shed and round in to the work shop and had a looksy at the job ahead .
i rekoned on yanking the whole lot out in one without splitting of the tranny so after two hours it was dangling on the end of the hoist it took another half an hour just to wriggle it from out of the engine bay i had to get it out otherwise i would not have shut the workshop door .
tonight i had an hour and towed the gt back out of the work shop and back in to its spot at the side of the shed gittin better at this two trucks one man thing so then i reversed the daihatsu in to the workshop and got the engine and box back on the hoist i then had to put a chain on the rear of the gearbox as it wanted to sit side on to the rear door of the daihatsu then pulled the chain to pull the box round while reversing an inch at a time to get the whole lump into the back of the truck woohoo then i just chocked it to stop it fallin over the drove out to turn around so now it is facing the engine hoist for the next leg of turbo g t this weekend possibly
-
just a short one me an cody are in the workshop today hope to have the turbo sitting in the gts engine bay by tonite............... o and plans are afoot to make the gt in to prolly the most UNTRENDY JEEP ever but am planning to be mobile for the 16th with full untrendyness to be complete by cheapfest
-
A bit delayed but I got my transfer case rebuilt last week - from this;

Damn it was hot in that workshop! Pleased with the end result.
New clutch on order (Centerforce Dual Friction). Soon as it arrives I'll be back in the 'shop fitting it up, and gearbox, and trans case.
-
yours is gonna be two shiny to drive mate
-
yours is gonna be two shiny to drive mate
And certainly too shiney to off road. Mud, trees, rocks, sand and grit..... AAAAAAHHHHHH.
-
Well now I beg to differ. Loads of effort into the finish yes but I'm using Polyurethane aircraft paint. It's as hard as nails - look what it goes through with huge variations in temp and extra high UV exposure.
Also it has a tendency to repel water (high speed finish). It's surprisingly easy to clean.
Too shiny too off road??? No chance!
-
better than teflon coated then........cool!!!!
-
i want some for my body tub that would be good
-
Can I just dip my jeep in it ???
Better still, can we fill the sheep dip with it before CF ???
-
Hmm, just another thought, who'd want a great big shiney red jeep? We'd all have to fit superchargers too
-
We'd all have to fit superchargers too
-
.....
. o O (Must not bite... must not bite)
(Appologies if only 1 person on the board got that joke...
)
-
don't bother i have one and there a waste of money....should have gone v8 or powerstroke diesel....
peter henry

V8....MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm!!!!!!V8

Spent the weekend putting the new leaf springs on the yj. Fitted the bushings and repainted them (no problem). Then Sunday morning started fitting the front springs. started at at 10.30 and at 2.30 still trying to line up the nipple into the axle. Finally got the first one on 5 hours after starting second one went on in 1 hour. ran out of time to start the back due to a few bolts needing sawing off. So I have a yj with the front sitting 2.5" higher than the back and a sore nose after hitting it with a rachet while trying to remove a bolt.
:x
Will try and start the back sometime this week
-
Can't get a picture up for some reason - but anyways the chassis is all done - got the clutch, bellhousing, gearbox and trans case on. Looks great. I need a new fuel pump which my mate has just brought back from Miami, once I get it off him I can start her up.
Also I just bought a YJ tub so that's this week's project..........keep ya posted.
-
cool mate i am doing some jobs on the scrambler at the mo
-
Tub swap's going well. Got the YJ chassis and tub separated, moved the fuel filler point over (on the tub, not the CJ chassis), got the tailgate off and set her to accept my CJ tailgate.
Tomorrow I'll be sorting out the mount points on the CJ chassis - two outriggers to move and rearmost mounting holes to make. Then I'm going to give the tub a good coat of epoxy primer.
I'll have a YJ rolling chassis for sale soon if anyone's interested? And soft top.
-
Finally finished the leaf spring swap on the yj. Picked a bad day to to it, having to work outside the house. had to getchanged twice due to getting wet in the rain. Just have to fit the front extended shackles and fit the 33" tyres and then adjust turning.
Should be ready for cheapfest.
-
glad you got it done mate.but how did you get wet in the rain??? was you runnin around in circles?
-
(http://http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/400000-400999/400080_67.jpg)
YJ tub alterations completed, sprayed up with epoxy primer.
It's gonna be a Jeep again soon!

Now then hereby hangs (another) tale of my own stupidity.
One plastic enclosure created in the hangar to spray up with clear coat. I had read that I ought to ground the tub before spraying it to ensure it does not become statically charged and attract dust.
So I did.
I failed to take into account however that I had just constructed a plastic enclosure which was, by now, statically (+ve) charged. So when I earthed the tub inside it I actually created a dust magnet......... the thing was COVERED in dust
Anyway 'tis all sorted now. Looks superb.
-
we done bin busy this weekend in the workshop
-
Ric, that is totally awsome mate

Still got to finish installing the winch, make a skid plate to go under it and maybe a light bar, but shes looking mean!
-
looks good chris 8)
number plate looks a bit exposed, ours broke because it was sitting about 3mm below the steelwork. Is there anything behind the bottom edge of it
-
Nice one Chris...
-
Another phat phux triumph.
Thanks guys.
The number plate is temporary. I'll probably get a motor bike style one to fit to the grill, or a stick on one for where the jeep badge is.
-
Whoa!!! That's awesome! I gotta get me one of those.
-
Nice work Guys, shame your so far away could do with a winch plate for the FJ
-
looks pants. dont like it.
-
-
:werd:
Looks a bit flimsy to me!
Only 'cause it's pink
Looks good mate.
-
Perhaps the lardy spent a lot of time going backwards
-
They're on the right way round for a Jeep.
As Matt says, maybe his were on the right way for a Lardie.

As one Jeep dies another is reborn. Not far to go now Ric.
-
Yeah got me one like that  ........ By the way are your Recip tyres on the right way round ? was following a lardy at Abingdon that had the chevrons pointing the other way.? He said he has them on the right way round, couldn't see any direction arrow though as they where covered in mud.
Looking good though
Some folks run one axle's tyres facing forward and the other axle backwards, supposely giving traction in both directions.
-
Your having a laugh Manda !
-
No! God's honest truth!!
-
the tread should always push the mud out to get to terra firma underneath... interstingly, on sand / volcano dust, you have it pulling inso that to the middle to run on a compressed surface.
You'd know that if you drove a tractor :)
EE
-
yup i have seen it done with directional tires just to give an equal forwar and reverse traction. sounds mad but by all accounts it does work.
-
yes it's true seen it many times...............
peter henry
-
cant see it makin much odds. they are muds after all.
-

Well I never saw an elephant fly ... my apologies oh great one
-
Must admit, I've never given it any thought about use on road... and "When I were a lad" the tractors were 2WD and you had those pathetic dragster front wheels (that had no grip anywhere, you used the "Fiddle" brakes to turn corners...) :)
-
So let me get this straight, with directional tyres you can have the front ones facing back and the back ones facing front.?? But will this have any averse affects on road handling as apposed to having all the tyres facing the same way ? Guess I'm being a dumb ass, but I thought you had to have all the tyres the same or is that just not to mix different tread patterns on the same axle or something. Seem to vaguely remember an advert on telly years ago about different tyres on cars but cant remember what it was going on about. Also I saw a plod Lexus this morning that had chevron patterned tyres on it, on the back end it had the near side tyre facing forward and the off side facing the rear ... What's that all about ??
Prob a punture and a cop that doesn't know better! With directional tyres, it's a PITA as if you get a puncture on the wrong side, you need to change two tyres.
Low speeds with reversed tyres is not a problem. If you take Pirelli P-Zeros and out them on back to front, you will REALLY know it in the wet as they drag all the water to the middle and try to lift the tyre off the road (if it's wet enough) and aquaplaning becomes a serious issue.
Tractor tyres are so deep and have so little grip on the road that I doubt it makes much difference. As for directional Mud tyres. I'd have them all facing forwards if I was using it on road. (ie. looking at the top of the tyre the arrow faces forwards. If you could look up at the tyre from the road, then the arrow faces backwards.) I can see the idea of having the fronts the wrong way round if you are on tracks / mud all the time, but that's about it. Trouble with reversing it, is that you are more likely to get stuck as you only have one axle giving you maximum traction.
Very interesting this...

the tyre advert you remember (many years ago i might add) was for radial and cross ply, that is not to have fitted to the same axle.........the directional tyres should all point forward as per the arrows and legally this is the case....but to get the edge off road you change the front tread to face rear, and as for the police lexus he must have had the spare tyre fitted, but as anyone who has directional tyres will tell you that you need two spares one for each side.

They was the days, any more I forgot about ?
i can think of "charlie the cat" and meet "mike he swims like a fish" also "petunia that man's waving at us"

The doors don't match!!! Lookin' sweet Ric.
-
It's
'Kin bright orange.... :)
-
onthe tyre thing if there is adirection arrow on the tyre it should piont the correct way as it is an MOT requirement (her car failed on that). And if you have (god forbid) an crash the insurance company wont pay out.
-
If it's directional surley the clue should be in the name...............
Not only that but when you fit them the wrong way round they are noisey as fcuk and handle pish.
-
Not only that but when you fit them the wrong way round they are noisey as fcuk and handle pish.
Thats why you saw them or a landy you wouldn't notice the difference
-
I miss all those old public information adverts, they used to be so naff and cheesy. I can now remember the one about the tyres, one about towing a caravan, one about banking up your coal fire in foggy whether or something, one about phoning the coastguard and don't forget the green cross man......... They was the days, any more I forgot about ?
Who can forget the incredibly helpful and somewhat panic inducing "Protect and survive" films from the early 80's? I was convinced that I wouldn’t reach my 20th birthday.
-
It's
'Kin bright orange.... :)
Trick of the light....it's "BA Red". You know - the red you see on BA tail fins? That's it!
-
Crazy fool!!!!!
-
If you want the flight attendants, then Virgin Red may have been better.
Do I take it that you get the paint cheap ??? :)
-
no he just over orders
-
None of the above it's lifex stuff.
Been bettin stuck into the pile of spaghetti that's masquerading as a harness!!!
Got her turning over which is a major milestone - next task is to get the fuel pump connected up and get the old girl firing.
-
Front lights, sidelights, indicators all working now.
Wipers working - used the YJ's intermittent wiper box.
Just got the rear end to wire up. Top 'n' bottom hoses due from Lighthouse tomorrow so should be firing her up shortly after they arrive.
MOT booked for next Wednesday........blimey it's nearly roadworthy!
-
well done mate
-
Well the winch is kind of finished. Still got to fit the in cab controls and a skid plate.
KC lamps now mounted in front of the mirrors on the bonnet.

Looking very nice Chris

no like fugly no plate
-
no like fugly no plate
Me neither. I just haven't decided what to do about it yet. :?
-
Go to homebase and ask for some "Large Tool Clips"
They're the springy metal clips just the right size for the Fairlead rollers.... Not fitted mine yet as I recon 2 sets will be better and a bit of checkerplate to mount the numberplate on...
EE
-
I'd already thought about that. The only problem is I'd have no number plate by morning round here.
My options at the moment, are bike sized one mounted on the grill, or a stick on one above the grill where the Jeep badge is and keep the one I have now for MOT time.
Just can't decide which at the moment.
-
Cable tie it at the back if you know you're keeping it on there for a while.... Just keep some spares and a pair of cutters in the car if you need the winch.
-
You've not met the scumbags round here...........I can tell!!
-
Project CJ update
She's legal!!!!!! :D :D 8)
-
Excellent!
Have you got a pic of her with headlights and other such frivolities?
-
Not yet - gonna take her for s spin round the beach later and take some then.
-
Great news Ric, she's done in time for the Turkey Hunt though...
-
And here she is......
I think I may have to concede on the colour. Defo a bit orangey.
I'm not totally happy with the paint job though to be honest. The primer doesn't appear to have adhered too well to the substrate. Might have to send her for a bare metal respray at some point but I'll see how I get on on the trails!
Gonna take some more on the beach later (the same one Bubba wants a barbie on in Jan) so I'll post them in the readers rides section.
-
looking good mate. look forward to seein her in the flesh.
-
That's one nice lookin' ride.
-
She looks excellent. You've had a huge amount of work, but it was well worth it mate.

ok, this is the best pic i can find.
I welded up the gay pod holes and painted it 'taxi black' you can see where i fitted some morris minor side light/indicaters in the front grill.

You sold that !!!!!! :sledgehammer: =P~
See what ya mean about the lights, they dont look half bad. Too late now
-
That's a really nice CJ. I remember you saying you had to sell her, dam shame.
The lights are a good trick. No potential problems with the law or MOT man!
Mick, you'd better get the grinder out!!!

-
that's going to have some serious flex...........what size rose/hem joints have you? and what dom bar?
peter henry
-
the roses are tractor toplink cat1 joints (takes a 3/4 unf bolt) the bar is as far as i can remember 6mm wall cds
-
i'm curious as to the length of the front arms................and why so long?
what wheel base are you looking to achieve?
peter henry
-
why not all the shock loads are going to be hitting the same point on the chassi so it can be beefed to hell round there, the wheelbase is 110 so the wheels stick out front and rear just a bit
-
we were just playing to see if there was any binding in the links

-
looks as you have mounted the engine and gear box further to the rear, is that the case and if so why?
peter henry
-
no, the engine and gearbox are in the stock location
-
also are you not going for the th400 box is that not a manual attached to the engine.
i know lot's of question but i'm just curious.
peter henry
-
no, the engine and gearbox are in the stock location

had a bit of a run, didnt have front dif lock and have a few teathing probs but nothing that rotating the axle a little wont cure. it is awsome where it will go and how easily it gets there! was having a right old time untill i had the mother of all backfires which basicly ended my day, investigating.

-
i am hoping to do a job or two the winch on the scrambler needs fixing and i need to finish my tidy up and them make a start on prepping the gt cj7 for its mot welded floorplate and some axle repairs is just about it i think i realy must shake off the winter lull and do some tinkiring

you have been a lazy shmuck for months i have shed loads to do its time to make a start i rekon
-
we have had a new arrival come to visit the workshop in the shape of a face lift xj a very clean mint one its visiting to have a rustys lift kit installed so we are going to make an effort to take pics at most if not all the stages so that it can be put up on the web for any one to get an idea of what is involved
in fact i think its probably a good idea to keep a digital camera in the workshop for general jobs anyway like today we are gonna finish making a pair of rock bumpers yesterday we missed the photo op of how to use a football to blow a dent out of a jeep door
-
bumpers  and its a bit higher
football, seen the remains
-
yup there is a silver xj in for a roof chop, some box section sils, carpets out, camo paint oh and a lift too fit
-
box section
-
ssshhhhhhhhhhh
-
we have hit a problem the 8inch roof chop is going ok kinda sorta but we just worked out the owner is over 6ft he might need a roof hatch or cupola to drive it
-
just have a rag top like the 2cv, you might have to go to a beach to get the vynal striped roof off a deck chair tho'
-
roof chop looks good so far and we have sorted the height problem...... we took the seat out  tomorrow we start on the pink camo job and the lowered springs must be fitted. oh and not to forget the neon's and chrome tailpipe cover
-
fuckfuck fuckety fuck
-
whats up dood? what ya broke?
-
You know the roof is structural on an XJ don't you??? A roof chop is normally accompanied by a full cage to stop the body flexing and doors not shutting...
Sounds interesting though, got any pics??
-
o well i am gonna have to fit one of my spare engines
-
o well i am gonna have to fit one of my spare engines
I guess it wasn't the valve timing then?
-
yup it was but after reseting and doing a compresion test i found a sixty psi loss of compresion on no 5 rather than do a full strip and rush to get back on da road i am gonna fit the warmed rebuilt 360 to it and rebuild the 304 at my leasure
-
update i have had a bizare couple of weeks with my old jeep i will do a full write up with pics when i get the chance but we are now running a warmmed 360 v8 and it sounds very nice indeed a deeper note for sure compared to the 304
-
good news
-
Nice
-
lots to do at mo but hoping to get spanner time on monday seems i have a bearing going in my dana 300t case
-
goin to have my workshop blessed by the bishop today
-
I hope he has the power to oversee the changing of a pinion seal!
-
yes indeed and he also passed holy water on the verge outside and read the last writes over a shot front prop uj and chewed much fat
-
A most convivial afternoon was spent at the Ponderosa and much was learned apart from how well a country lad can get lost in Brum........
Many Many thanks Bubba.....not just the work and what was learned but the chewing the fat as well :-D
-
-
Good to hear you had a good day Stew 8-)
-
thanks for the kind words... it would seem we may be busy in the pre cheapfest run up a tj for a clutch a yj for a new timing chain and gears plus i am trying to tidy up and log the stuff i have got so i can find everything
must try n do some pics
-
we did the timing chain today on a yj four popper it was not a bad job to do it was quite a shock to see how much the chain had stretched over the miles/years and the tenshioner was well worn and in need of replacement personally i was surprised to find the timing chain was a single thickness chain the engine seemed to be in excellent condition [had the sump off] all in a good job done and the engine wispers on tickover as sweet as can be :-D
-
yup. ta for your help and knowlage oh fat one
-
gails is next for a quiet release bearing
-
shit that has got to be the noisiest thrust bearing i ever done heard
-
does she win a prize
-
shit that has got to be the noisiest thrust bearing i ever done heard
-
just finished the clutch on the noisy tj yet again i have seen a perfectly good clutch replaced for the sake of a shit thrust bearing that had failed why the hell has the aftermarket not made a heavy duty relacement bearint that will last the life of a tj clutch this job must be getting on for 400 quid at most places
at least it now runs smooth and silent
-
Thanks for everything mate, it is a crap design for sure
-
been busy again, latest update got some proper tyres at last, 44s baby!

well tomorow i am going to start on retidying up the garage after what seems a dormant period the only thing done latly was to repair my no name 1200lb winch and up grade it to radio control nice job and very pleased after the tidy up there is a small no of jobs waiting
engine change
tj ujs
axle rebuild
a very rusty yj chasis this one is a rather sad job as with each passing week as prices plummet it seems less worth doing but we will see
and then who knows as my standard scrambler just seems to scream lift me
-
i think the radio will be loaded with
steve earl jonny cash and the bellamy bros/dixie chicks
-
Steve Earle....now were rocking....

soon to be seen on the trails methinks
-
after chattin to his lordship and fittin shiny bits the the shiny tj we got round to talkin autos tf999s in fact all my scramblers have them and so does the flashy mobile i have a 999 spare on the floor i have modde one of mine but am going to look indepth at diffrant ways of doing it i am sure i have seen a mod that has a fitting threaded in to the factory vent and brake pipe or such like fitted at a near rightangle for cnoverter clearance and out through the bellhousing very close to the pump face but without drilling the tranny housing and no swarf risk i will see what can be done with my slave tranny on the floor i have no probs with the drill method but pondersome over if it can be done any other ways
-

piece of string and got it rite first time in to the vent area the other holes wernt a problem after we pumped three cans of no more gaps in to them
now we just gotta fit it back up

-
What colour are you planning for it sir...
-
either amarilo yellow
or hemi orange
black roof
-
What about "Ghay Silver"
-
shut up foool
-
No you''l end up living on an island, drinking port and falling over in bogs....
-
yellow is good....
-
orange good yello bad.
-
Firstly I’m glad we can now all see who does all the work, what you didn’t see was Bubba just out of shot in his hammock drinking pina coladas and shouting orders  , but yellow will work but a wagon that size will need to be broken up with a bit of black detailing, arches, roof and a bonnet graphic
Personally I would go for a period colour, the green drab, light and dark browns are my favourites.
-
Missed out on a Commando last year or so back for under a £1K
Strange it was a license built jobbie from Spain with a Perkins diesel, and was post 71/2 and I was looking for a ~DVLA free ride!!!
Like the ones ya picked NB good old JP!!
-
yup i remember the spanish one it was built by ebro viasa
-
hey, i know that jeep, was owned by an american chap called tim, he used to drive that thing pretty hard at times. been about 10 years since i last saw it tho! good to know its still about and in the hands of someone worthy! ish
-
ish ya cheeky
-
today i done a bad thing
-
does it involve a chicken, lime jelly and a one legged nun?
if so snap i did the same, good aint it
-
umm no
-
Bought a Punto???
-
all puntos need to be scrapped and their owners need a boot up the backside for making such a foolish decision.
-
If you're even thinking about buying any Italian car (as if you would!?) remember look under the hood to find
the 'Compact by Date'
And yes Ferraris are made out of Fiat steel............
Italian motorbikes mmmmmmnnnn they're different but then I'm biased..............

-
a new one? well done m8
-
Excuse my ignorance, I can see its a CJ but is it 6, 7 or 8
Definitely no nuns & chickens in that photo BTW
-
Looks like a 6 or 8,the back is too long for a 5 or 7
-
is it an AM8 by chance?
-
no
-
is this one going to be left std ?
-
oh man did i get a surprise when i saw what he gone and done.... he painted the little scrambler....
PINK
-
eh :axe:
-
you think i am jokin... i think he is going through the change
-
Is that the MANOPAUSE?
-
seems a long time since there was an update on my tinkerings so here is an overview of stuff that i am hoping to get done soon
1 rebuild the amc 20 in the rear plus mot of big red...to aim for using at cheapfest
2 replace my sankey trailer for a wide trac version
3 replace the 33s plus pos engine change on the green scrambler
4 bodywork on commando and replace water pump
5 develope big red into a sort of off road recovery/repair staition ... sort of monkey on back thing idea
6 consider big picture how many jeeps i can realisticaly keep and run or mothball as i have had my blue scrambler 5 years covered in the garage the commando and big red are my main concept ideas that will deffo be in the long term plan
7 probably one of the first things that will be done is the parting out of a freinds yj just been waiting for the hard top to be collected then it is chop time
8 zj lift coming soon i feel it in my water
9 boomarang bob will be in for some more improvements
10 cj spring over on yj leafs nother feel in water job
11 somthing in in the back of my head that wont go away too mad and unlikly too spill on yet
12 pics lots more pics

Below was posted on LR4x4, may be of interest? I dont know the guy, but it maybe worth a looky?
I'm selling my sankey. (well its a paratow)
3/4 ton, wide track, so it has a tailgate.
Its in good nick, and has 2 new 6.50 continental tyres. 12 volt bulbs.
Comes with a civvy trailer plug adaptor, that retains the original plug so either can be used.
brakes work very well.
I'm in staffordshire

well following this weeks good news i had some cider on thurday night after my visione was suitibly blurred i had an atack of the rattle cans
-
Mr Bubba, please kindly note the below:
:ttiwwp:
-
probably sprayed a jeep pink hence no photo's
-
wasnt one of them already a sorta dark pink anyway :003:
-
its a kinda mix
-
no pics till i a am done with i few minor bits cb n stuff
-
new developments afoot folowing the sad sale of two of the fleet no new replacements but there shortly will be some activity
-
so will the activity be finding some of those lost tools
-
fecking hell does this mean its going to be clean and tidy?
-
it almost is
this avo i fitted a new thermostat to the heapo [xj] and welded the front anti rollbar link it had stripped its threads [home made by someone]
as the lift is 3 0r 4 inch but is some funky bitsa kit
got to find a few more bits n bobs for the released scrambler and the jeepster leaves this week sometime
much as i dont realy trust heapo with its lektrickery as long as it behaves hoping to get anther two years out of it
evan the it will need a weldathon for its mot
-
jeepster has now gone cj8 hopfully goes on sunday then its major work
-
unexpected cevelopments should see the camo scrambler on the road by the end of next week with the cab roof on as its needed to remove a conservatory that makes me kinda happy
-
:greggmo: me too
-
eggs/chickens it just needs some jigging of finances
-
well camo scrambler is on the road moved a conservatory was moved yesters with the great help of a giant smurf and the boy lard a tj has now been regeared with truetracs next job is on our xj crusty heap needs its mot runs out this week darn it but it needs a weldathon and other jobs
then we will see but my v8 scrambler has to get on the rode for july eldest daughter has at last gained an idea about coolness and wants me two take her to her school prom in it instead of a hummer limo like the rest of the kids
-
sensible girl
but that does fuck big T's overtime
-
sensible girl
but that does fuck big T's overtime
nope the hummerzine is fully booked, all the limo's are,( and in fact we are turning away work for proms) not that I will be driving it that much tho, this full time night job keeps getting in the way!
-
so big red is going to see some wax and polish before the big day ?
-
it will get the nearest to a vallet its ever had
got get an mot on it first
-
anybody want or know what a good running lifted xj is worth mot just ranout and have started to look at some welding that i was expecting a bit of but after removing some pop riveted areas to cleanly weld what i coud see needed to weld i can ow see that there is basicly no good areas of floor to weld to
so it is looking very much like one last trip to the scrap yard i think its worth about 260 scrap but if somenoe is interested in it for the lift and good tyres not muds pm me i am witing this while i have a cuppa and a think i still have the other side to expose but floors sills boot floor you can push your finger through and i know if it was bought to me to look at by a third party i would tell them to forget it
your thoughts plese guys
-
Deffo get more if you break it up
-
Send it to boot hill.....
-
well i think that i would rather it went as a whole i dont realy want it messin the place up indefenatly i realy am wonderin if its worth trying to sort the whole interior would need to come out as there is so much carpet underlay exposed underneath i think it would be foolish to atempt welding the drivers side needs renewing front to rear and the pass side is almost the same
-
Get rid of Freddie Flintstone.
I have a little project for you!!!!
-
unless somone on birtys gets in quick i will take it to work on monday and on my way home weigh it in at local scrap yard i do work at a scrap yard but we dont realy take vehicles
go on then mr h tell me more
-
ML - fit the GHAY winch (will have to be custom mount) and chin guard also rock sliders - can have Mojo do the wrap at the same time.
-
i take it one could not get a winch mount then
-
also would that be legal on your newish truck
-
Nope only a demountable one.
Have had a good look at this and it's doable for sure - would be very strong as the chassis is just behind the bumper some cutting would be required.
-
also would that be legal on your newish truck
Manx registered now so not a problem :icon_biggrin:
-
ok now what about sliders under sill or part of sill
-
Part of the sill as need the lift it's a weak point off road - cut the foooooker!! And weld the slider directly to the chassis
-
round boxed plated?
-
you would be leaving it or sending it ? as not realy sure how long or how hard task might be
-
I can leave it.
The sliders must be jackable with the high lift - perhaps put those round locators in.
-
The sliders must be jackable with the high lift - perhaps put those round locators in.
Like what we have on our sophisticated Phat Phux sliders :icon_winkle:
-
indeed
-
:pics:
-
i thought he already did
-
Not seen them :017:
-
make a pickup
-
it will fold instantly if i cut the roof of dave you have it you have the time the skill and the vision
-
happy easter folks kids have got choky eggs and i am going to try and do a bit more to my hardtop conversion i have cut and shut two yj hardops to make full scrambler top it was a tricky job but it has turned out ok its not the most buetiful thing i ever seen but it will do the job and seems waterproof i need to get the sander out out and do a bit more smoothing on the inside plus a bit of tidy up i hope soon will start the rub down job for a respray also need thick carpet for it to act as sound deadning and make it seem plush
the xj seems to be going as soon as interested party gets back from holls so pleased about that team lard has got an interesting devlopment ahead for spongebob
will post a pick later of the hard top if i can
-
so this is what i have been up to

-
Fair play dood, looks a v tidy job, way u had described it i was expectin a right old heath robinson but that looks proper (still not a half cab tho!)
-
true but i do have a half cab for it and umm yes thats it .......you dont :hysterical:
-
time is relative Pops
-
too? :017:
-
me bein patient
-
and optimistic of nature
-
you fancy a bit of this then
-
well obviously when they belong to me they wont actually move :011: but yeah, why not
-
so if you gat a scrambler this is as close as it will get to moving
-
o and for all you fulsizers out there this is the sweetest one i ever had
-
blimey :icon_eek: makes mine look a bit tired, better get the polish out (thats the lad at the local car wash), bet that photo is a few decades old :003:
and yup, you know as soon as u give me the 8 then plans will be formed, parts bought, changes started and 3 yrs later .............. :003:
-
i sold that about 4and a half years ago it was mint from kuwait
-
Book the ML for next week? I can leave it with you.
-
yup no problemo this could be very interesting if a bit head scratchy
-
OK let me look at the boat plane combination and confirm with you - need to liaise with Mojo also for the Tigger stripes!!!
Wile I think about this preparation for the event is:-
Winch control from Ruftracks and winch cable from? shut off switch? steel box from? Paint from?
This way I can attened the Birty Breakout.
-
stripes first maybe
-
Possibly Mojo is on the case......
-
does Mr h have any inspirational pics of what he has in mind for Little willy .....erm i mean team mean
-
Not really - found this for the winch....
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.extrem-motorsport.de%2Fseilwinden%2Fbilder%2F16-602.jpg&hash=84452e0dbf01218ae5b7c20d01c48596fe51d82b)
-
and is that demountable or fixed and has youres got to be fixed any chance of pics of the sill to see how it lends itself or not for sliderz
-
can't you cut out the cills and replace with box section like with the xj's. or is that not an option Mr.Henry
-
that is what i am wanting to know
-
Take photos later as it's persssssisting it down here.
-
Could you work on a desing similar to the Detours ones for XJ, ZJ and KJ - all are monocoque/unibody and the mounts are quite subtle, working around standard bumpers???

Looks like the sill has three layers...

It would be easier to drill through it and weld to the chassis.
-
is it a real chasis or a dummy chasis rail
-
It's a proper chassis.
-
MJS are getting alead time then... :icon_super: :banghead: :banghead:
-
that is a thin sill.
looks more like a cosmetic finish for the door lower rather than a structural piece. It may be a design feature to create a false sill.
Can't you put box section in the hole between the chassis rail and the sill and then have a sacrificial bash strip which extends out past the doors and bolts to the box section.
-
Will not be this week - try for next!!
-
a full chasis so we need somthing that is fixed to the chasis and also protects the sills not easy if we are to try and keep ground clearance this could be fidley
-
Go through the sill not under!!!!
-
was thinking along the lines of this, relatively simple to do.
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe198%2FDaveP69%2Fmisc%2Fboxsection.jpg&hash=1772f6c02a5b46e228bd4faaba5fe99fc5c27a45)
you might want to elaborate on what you mean by "going through the sill"
-
More like this....
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi106.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fm246%2Fmanxmafia%2Fboxsectionx3.jpg&hash=dc9696125e65686198eaf797f3bc5d66c1b28e40)
-
that is what i had in my head but it will need a to cover the side iof the cill too
-
interesting to see what idea you finally come up with
-
greggmo has a far better eye for fabrication than me and he will be taking the lead my ideas will only add to the ramblings
-
you mean he'll be doing the welding and you'll be painting and drinking the tea
-
not quite but not far off i think there will be plenty for both of us to do :bangtard:
-
Can't wait....
-
so MJS is a ghay Gharage?
-
never
-
it needs quary stone floor tiles before it gets to ghay status
-
And a hot tub in the corner
-
I can leave it.
The sliders must be jackable with the high lift - perhaps put those round locators in.
Apologies for taking so long Mr H.
This is what we have, round bar locators to stop the hi lift moving / slipping as opposed to tubes which could get crud in them, just a thought
-
And finally
-
i have a plan. :103:
-
Brilliant!!!
-
teamwork will sort it and lots of toast done in the frying pan
-
mmmmmmmm fried toast. :icon_super:
-
Brilliant!!!
you misunderstand, the plan is a fryup
-
Ahhh but it's a plan!!!!
-
mm...fryups...
-
mm...fryups...
Assiette of organic lamb!!!!
-
you want find one better than at the ranch
-
One or two?
-
You want lamb recipies IOM....????
-
Sweetbread???
-
its nice to work in a steel stock holders. you get to have a nose around for plans for your next venture. i got a plan mr h. :greggmo:
-
Great!!!
-
:greggmo:
-
well i have had a week of and this

-
thats the father in law he was coming over to give his daughter a beating for not being a better wife its a sort of warranty recall thing
-
:great:
:greggmo:
-
so everyone else dont like it .......... :hysterical: :hysterical: i can live with that
-
i like it but it needs mud, its toooooooooooooooooooooo red :greggmo:
-
well its a bit clean i freely admit but it hemi orange but its red enough to not change the logbook i rekon
-
Is it me, or have half the CJs in England now been Tango'd?
-
not quite just under half and exactly half of the ones i have owned
-
Nice one Kev, a constructive time has been had I see :icon_jook:
-
Forget 'Changing Rooms', changing scramblers is much bettter.
As cool as camo is that looks super sweet now & the shiny chrome grill sets it off; great one!
Get some tyre dressing on it & you'll have a boulevard cruiser :icon_winkle:
-
Is it me, or have half the CJs in England now been Tango'd?
style will shine through :003: :003:
-
does the word " sheep" come into any one else's mind? :hysterical:
-
i would say that was unfair my first i bought that way and nosebolt picked a very similar shade without ever seeing my first scrambler so sheep no
i just like it and in fact i like hemi orange and yellow so much next year i think big red will become big yella again this is cos i have had sreveral in the past bright yellow and i still love it
-
beside it is only running jeeps that suit bright colours, the static garden jeeps are better in dull colours so as not to annoy the neighbours :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:
-
i would say that was unfair my first i bought that way and nosebolt picked a very similar shade without ever seeing my first scrambler so sheep no
i just like it and in fact i like hemi orange and yellow so much next year i think big red will become big yella again this is cos i have had sreveral in the past bright yellow and i still love it
yellow is uber cool, so I don't blame you there, in fact thats why I asked what colour you painted it, it was a toss up in my mind whether it would be yellow or orange, as to being unfair, I guess you can become head of the flock then seems you had it first/ :lol_hitting:
-
to be 100% truthful it was the paint choice was forgone as already had half of the paint needed but if i had no paint and could aford to go and buy it all in one hit it might well have been yellow
-
Jeep Solar yellow off the TJ is unbeatable, as is Fiat's Broom Yellow.
Other than that yellow is hard to do well imo;
too light & matt ands it looks washed out & faded, get it too dark & it looks like plant.
Continuing the Mopar theme; what about 'plum crazy'?
-
Ferrari Yellow off the 1972 ish 246 Dino......... (also rusted well)
-
ford chrome yellow was a good one my smashed scrambler was Amarillo yellow not sure of the make
-
Amarillo yellow is a Ford colour.
-
i sort of had a feelin it was
-
Now you guys have got me thinking Orange ZG...
-
puke green and orange spots would suit it
-

Can you legally flatfender a tj? will it fall foul of mot laws for sharp edges? due to it being a post '95 design? :017:
-
Can you legally flatfender a tj? will it fall foul of mot laws for sharp edges? due to it being a post '95 design? :017:
i doubt if they would even notice, probably too busy looking at my tyres that stick out and my illegal numberplates :icon_rolleyes:
-
it does appear in the MOt testers manual but I am not sure they can read lol
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_610.htm (http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_610.htm)
-
Most flat fender/tube fender kits or DIY jobs I have seen are 'tube' and therefore nice and smooooth and forgiving to your pinkies.
They are well hard and would not deform (I thought that was the idea?) if they hit anything/one.......
On that note I remember the Chrysler FTE modified TJs that came to Jeepfest when it ran..... they had pieces of stainless running from top of bumper to under indictor on fender...... to replace what had been removed when they did the lift/body lift
Guess it stops chavs from stagediving thro the gap and clogging up your muds......
-
yes I would think you would be ok with a small radiused edge, simply cutting it off with and angle grinder would be stupid.
-
the radii has to be large and not fail a "tennis ball test". so your std 1"+OD tube would be no problem. Most MOT testers would question the modification.
have you thought about a job with the ministry Panic
-
who Vosa?
-
no nasa
-
national administration stupid aresholes?

yust had a call from the recovery bloke his name must be porky cos nothing he said rang true or makes any sense but it would seem it is dumped somwhere cos its not on the truck and the truck it self has gone from a 7and a half tonner to an arctic wich is no good for drop off at all as it HAS to go on my drive
it sounds like they dumped it to go do other work and now the keys and the truck aint evan in the same county but he say it will all arive between 10 and 11 tomorrow morning so i am thinking tomorrow night porky is not a very convincing chap ......not a good start and i cant say what to expect next not wishing to poke the fire but i am glad its not my truck

-
This bloke sounds a lying twat
-
actually thinking about it maybe this transport specialist was an under cover customs officer, realiseing BD had painted this Golden eagle so that it could be smuggled out of the country without no one knowing..... and he read somewhere that golden eagles are a protected species...... bulldog could be in deep doo doo now! :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:
-
they seek it hear they seek it there

-
At what point are you going to call the Feds in?
Perhaps an all ports alert is needed or a stolen vehicle report?
:jpshakehead:
-
well i should have gone out to start with as i was almost home porky rang to say he was round the corner i told him i would be back in a few mins but that ally was in and to be fair he put it just where i wanted it so as i arived he was in his cab telling porkys to someone else i had a quick chat and would say he was a nice chap as long as you dont depend on him he thinks he lost out as did not expect it to be so heavy and recond the fuel gage just sank as an up side ally says its fooken ugly and the roughest pile of crap to grace our drive in many years and .......she is gonna kill ya
-
dam we could have had him going til the club meet.
-

-
Snickers, ya been brainwashed by the Bubbameister, its beauty is undeniable :003:
-
where the pics to support my claims Mr & Mrs Bubba?
-
just camo paint it and lose it on the driveway out back
-
Bubba, between me & u we got a problem, for clear reasons we have to keep this quiet, but im genuinely worried bout ya safety mate, if Snickers thinks the J10 is fugly, u must panic on 2 levels, first off she is obviously bonkers, we cant be disputin that, but also that means her luverliness radar is completely off, so she aint gonna fail to have an adverse reaction to ya goodself :jpshakehead: u need to get ya ass in hidin dood
-
phew, i thought at one point you'd want to check yer neighbours cellar to find the driver bound n gagged.....j10 on the midnight train going anywhere...teeeheee
glad part 1 resolved :icon_biggrin:

-
that was very good deflection by the way :icon_winkle:
-
she says if it wernt black it would look better
-
but as its old iron i will look forward to trying to heal it
-
keep her away from the spray cans dood :003:

ally is :greggmo:
-
:jpshakehead: heathens
:hysterical:
-
tonight I saw the beast...... I think Ray charles could have done it better with a trowel but on the upside I did hear it running after a little hot wiring... BD you need to learn how to use a roller properly, furrows like that only look good on a field..... :lol_hitting:
-
y'all missin the point, its meant to look shite :003:
but its running so that is major cool :headbanger:
ps. just wait to see how 'bad' a paint job the CJ has :hysterical:
-
bit delayed but still :hysterical:
-
the paint finish must be the new anti-theft tactic then
-
agreed, one of its many benefits
the idea is no-one goes near it coz it looks like i dont give a shite about it and therefore it brings bad karma jeeperscreepers style, but underneath its all purring perfectly
-
Bit like my never washem concept...
-
agreed, one of its many benefits
the idea is no-one goes near it coz it looks like i dont give a shite about it and therefore it brings bad karma jeeperscreepers style, but underneath its all purring perfectly
I think kev has already had a pikey and his girlfriend interested in it......they even missed out on him getting rid of the caravan, they could have had it all in one go!
-
noticed something very odd about the black bastard tonight i only had a few secs to look at somthing that was bugging me
-
oh for fucks sake :jpshakehead:
odd bad :010:

-
very odd wrong
-
come on then, put me outa my misery, its been a shit long day and im bein attacked by man flu so u may as well finish me off
-
you dont get off that easy
-
:headhack: dood, tell me
an
ordered speedo off rockauto today, despite 2 calls to lightys and promises of return calls they never got back to me
-
well the poorly gear box thats in it is not original
-
what is it then? and does this alter our plans?
-
well when you told me the hi low lever was not conected i thought it was simply adrift when it arived it chukked it down so did not realy look but did notice the th400 had a strange lower belhousing in that the lower half was missing chevy style missing its moon plate [just like H] but the jeep ones dont have the moon plate or none i have ever come across and i niticed the starter was fitted in an odd maner but as i say it was cuckkin it down so did not look too close
well then tonight i only had a few secs as i was waiting for the kids to get there shoes on to get in the jeep so i peered at the dangling hi low lever and realised the reason was there was no hi lo unit on the gearbox very very odd i have only once ever heard of a quadratrac box with no low range but never came across one till today so that box came from fuck knows where when i get a chance i will look properly but i am wondering if it has been fitted with a chevy 400 on to a quadratrac with no low range how very strange rather like its owner
-
i am cursed :011:
every CJ job has been like this :011:
-
dont worry dood i aint actually laid a hand on it in anger yet it will sort out
-
kev, i have a new reciprocating saw i need to try out :greggmo:

-

-
.....................a bent front prop shaft ..............................
:jpshakehead: guess who had a spare prop until a few months ago :eusa_doh:
-
bloody hell you would think he was gonna be payin specialist lieasure or the sadly departed mdg rates instead of laid back shade tree rates
-
u mean that image i have of you on the verandah of the ponderosa in ya hawaiin shirt smokin a foot long cuban witha glas of brandy on the go is wrong :017:
-
maybe
-

power steering bracket is broken flex plate breaking up there is no dipstick tube its broken off at the block carden joint is fucked ther is a cable tied loop in the hand brake cable cos its four feet to long alternator is howling its head off the low range rod is missing gear box only had 3 bolts in the bellhousing transmision cooler pipe is leaking
but i fixed the bonnet catch
-
wow :icon_eek:

-

:hysterical:
-
ahh as i thought :017: i sort of thought you had bought a conversion kit from vanco or similar that would actually fit without a lot of messin and would at least have pipe fittings
-
ifsja recommended, but i promise to buy anything else without checkin with the proprietor of MJS first
-
on the up side when i hat taken the silent running exhausts off for acces to the gear box i just had to run the engine up so the pigeons next door could listen to it roar with just manifolds on...............made me smile :icon_biggrin:
-
cool :greggmo:
i told u they were mad exhausts, dunno how u could make a 360 that quiet
anyhow, its lookin a bit of a longer job than i thought, but thank fuck u got it, old one arm woulda had it years as the extras were found
-
ita a good job i have several flexplates and all the bolts needed to replace all the missing ones all in that funny american thread :icon_winkle:
i would love to know who how why they did all this mad bad sad stuff to this poor old jeep............
......and then kick them in the nuts
-
so Pa, how goes the Bastards reinvigoration?
-
all out on the floor junk th400 sulking out side the garage new 400 ready to go in both transfer cases partly stripped to asses the best parts to build backup with the mile marker part time kit to give 4x2/4x4 and low range will also i think give low range rear wheel drive wich can be usefull on mad towing jobs
i need to find a new flexplate out of the shed and bulldog has to ring lightys for new rubber gear box mounts both of them
-
ok, just so i dont come back with a spam sandwich i need "two th400 gearbox mounts" ?
-
not really they are the transmision mounts that fix under the transfercase to the cross menber one is the rubber suport mont the other is a trorque control rubber
-
ok, will do my best, but lightys do like to ask me questions i havent got a hope of answerin :100:
-
yeah they ring after you hang up and we have a scream
-
:wave-fingersmiely: mudderfuckers :hysterical:
-
i am hoping to steal the odd hour on a week day nigt to try and make prgress on the enormous amount of work
-
:023: yor a good Pa so u are begorrah

-
noooooooooooo :eusa_naughty:
might look cool on my next Chief, but not on the Bastard
-
it will look like a huge black blob out of a 50s b movie all black with west coast mirrors and the silver razzor grill will look old skool cool
-
on a diff subject if the floater xj can survive as a daily i am planning to riviese my scrambler options and am thinking
orange scrambler
has a leaky torque converter seal and replacement means engine out and i dont think i can bring myself to put the 6 banger back in so i will sort a one of my v8s to go in it put it on 33s and and use it for any towing duties untill funds allow another set of 35s
red scrambler
needs axle rebuild so i am thinking a regear to make it a towing monster and as it is a pickup and staying that way i am considering using
lucifers pagan gas as a fuel as i can fit a large tank behind the cab without sacrificing much load area and up grading to hydroboost as it will stay on 35s
as i say this will come to pass if the floater survives
project orange wont cost me anything as i already have the parts and the orange will stay on the road just unused as backup/work truck as trust is not deep in the floater as good as it seems to be
on a funny side the battery on the floater was flat the other day and i started it with jump leads and shut the door on the now running floater and found the centrol locking had cycled and i had shut the door on the now running with all keys in the ingnition......oops
after a about twenty mins of thinking and messing i tried and managed to pick the tailgate lock and get in.....phew
-
it will look like a huge black blob out of a 50s b movie all black with west coast mirrors and the silver razzor grill will look old skool cool
pic with either option please dood, but im yet to be coonvinced
-
shouldn't this be retitled as "tales from bulldogs garage"
-
dunno bout that, think Gaz is a frequenter of MJS as well, its just seems like me a lot coz im more excitable :041:
-
read the whole thing dave you will see that bulldogs junk is only hogging space at the moment but only of late
-
dunno bout that, think Gaz is a frequenter of MJS as well, its just seems like me a lot coz im more excitable :041:
Tis true I have been known to frequent MJS, sometimes for just a cuppa, sometimes for advice & sometimes for some fettling but nearly always take whatever form of transport I get there in or on back the same day :003: :003: :003: :icon_jook:

and any ways you can put all the under floor tanks you like in when the bro in law takes the bed off or cuts the old floor out
-
so if thats true does it mean you will be able to reach the petrol station round the corner with it?
-
good point about the bed coming out
and yes im hoping to be able to drive it from Kent to Cheapfest without stopping if I double its fuel carrying capacity :003:
-
you wont be mobile and got bed /tanks done for cheapfest mobile maybe/hopefuly
-
and yes im hoping to be able to drive it from Kent to Cheapfest without stopping if I double its fuel carrying capacity :003:
What you meant to say was you would fill up with cheap petrol from the midlands before your journey home :098:
-
you wont be mobile and got bed /tanks done for cheapfest mobile maybe/hopefuly
yeah v true, im hopin to get at least 500 miles on it by Cheapfest so I can wheel it, but time will be tight for us both

but what has this got to do with tales from the workshop
-
today will be a wheel swapping day on a visiting jeep plus some messing about with a winch and a review of any jobs for mot on chugga as it looks like it will be pressed back in to family service as the floater is simply not working out with maxx he says its gay too
the bastard is lurking in the project bay a waiting it turn but has to wait as there is another jeep awaiting its tyres and a tickle up for its mot
there has been a lot of nothing going on in the last 3 months or so
-
lurking is cool :greggmo:
-
the visitor should be here very shortly with his tj from the golden city of mer
-
Would it be fair to say the customer in question from this parish is a senior gentleman :hysterical:
-
i think the word is ancient Gaz :hysterical:
-
triassic ?
-
i think his birth certificate is written on a tablet of stone yes

Brakes are an over rated concept :hysterical:
-
has your truck been in for a service then Gaz?
-
they would work better if he stopped polishing the friction material as well.

Out playing yesterday & Sarah was just about to tackle a twisty descent, said sonething dont feel right, I had a look, pedal went to floor, sprung a leak in a brake pipe, game over for the day :010:
Was winched down a very tight steep desent in a couple of goes & stop half way to strap to a tree, thanks to chaps around us & manged to drive off the site & to gateway to await AA.
TJ recovered to MJS & with the assisistance of another Jepp & judicious use of throttle, mamaged to park it in the garage.
I await news from MJS HQ

:13: :icon_pray: :icon_pray: :icon_pray:
Will ring you shortley oh wise one :icon_jook:
-
a word of warning to all you tj guys looking under the drivers wing where it meets the chassis rail there is a gay rubber skirt afair to keep crap from the wheel station going in the engine bay
well where it goes behind the spring /shocker tower this skirt lies on top of the two brake pipes that run there along the chassis rail [directly under the air box so hard to see] it traps all the dirt on top of these pipes but as i say very hard to see but it seems to stay damp under this skirt to the point of corroding them dangerously they can not be seen here on mot or any normal inspection
please take the airbox out and remove the skirt and inspect this 8 inches of pipe it may be shot gazes jeep has good pipes all round but his had corroded in this damp dirt trap to the point of failing
please note no amount of jet washing or looking will clean them out go look before you have problem guys
-
also the mjs trial concept is finished as it has no viable chance of success
-
its viable if you had the time, you got the skills, you got the customers, but unfortunately you also got a job :jpshakehead:
-
it is a bad trapping area.
When i replaced all the brake lines on my 97 i did not replace the skirts, at least when jet washing you can now get to this area :icon_winkle:
-
Noted Mr Morris...the descent yesterday was interesting...
-
so had the brake pipe corroded thru causing Gaz and Sarahs problem and did the pipe have that spring like protection around it cos that does not help, the mud clings to it.
Jeep must have realised this as my old 03 reg had smooth brake lines all round
-
it had corroded yes but they were smooth un armoured i could only see one on the whole truck with it on the one that runs to the rear axle
re the armour not helping steve i am not sure this going to sound crazy but i have almost never had to replace the armoured type fitted to cjs
in fact both my scramblers still run the original 30yr old brake pipes sound insane i know but if there were shot they would have been gone long ago
-
indeed, it was doctor death who didnt like mine
i changed to a different surgery now :icon_winkle:
-
the coil spring armour is a rot trap on brake lines, rip it out and replace with new. Before flaring one end slide plastic heat shrink tubing over the pipe for added protection, then heat slightly to constrict the tube. clear heat shrink is the better option, then put final nut in place and apply the appropriate end flare and fit
-
Picked up the TJ tonight, another MJS triumph, much appreciated Mr Morris :icon_jook:
-
well what a frustrating time i am having this year has been unusual year that has seen my hands tied regarding time to get stuff done
but now i am a bit like a juggler that has just dropped his balls
just come in from the garage after giving up on the 3b handbrake cables [just to stretched] i need to get new ones to get an mot-able handbrake shame as i had a provisional mot today so as it now stands horn needs a rewire screen washers just stopped working and as the kids are now up and sat is family day i will have a go tomorrow at it and try to work out where to get new cables
my 3b has the later crap handbrake that works on the wheels rather than the more common transmission handbrake i wonder if i can fit the old type instead ?
sunday will also be a day to give my orange scrambler a fresh once over for its mot going to try and get that in next saterday morning i can honestly say i can only think of one minor thing that it will prob need once it has mot it will go on ebay
PRE EBAY BIRTY OFFER £5000 QUID WITH A TRUCK CAB THROWN IN ON 33S £4500 on 31s and no cab
folowing the hopefull sale of the orange one the red one will be for sale lifted 35s v8 lockers eddelbroke parts a plenty far to much to just reel off
BUT its been off the road for just over 3years and the rear diff bearings are fooked and it has a few bubbly paint areas nothing bad or any holes but they are there to offset this i will be throwing in ALL MY SPARES inc 2xaxles 2x gearboxes 2x new eddelbroke performer carbs pluss inlet to suit and rockers
new wings new ujs x10 at least rotors altinators starter motors ans the new bearings for axle plus new wheel bearings seals lots of new stuff and lots of good spares probably more that will fit the rear bed i would think to but all the new spares would get ya close or poss over 2k never minf selling off starters or radiators
PRE EBAY BIRTY OFFER £5000 WITH ALL SPARES OR £4500 LESS THE 5 35 INCH TYRES
there that sorts the e bay bit about advertised else where if a propper buyer wants to come forward and talk turkey i may be able to trim a deal to fit
-

and say Hi to my Bastard for me please
-
once the sales have been sorted i will be looking for a new family troop truck not an easy task i need a truck that has
1 at least 7 seats pluss room for pram/luggage
2 be rugged to stand said troops
3 must 30mpg or very close
4 must be fixable by self
5 must be able to tow another vehicle over distance
6 must have cheap and easy parts new and second hand
7 insurance and overal costs need be sensable
dunno what you lot think please ad vise your input but dare i say it that looks a lot like to me ... a 110 tdi 5 door landy :icon_redface:
-
shogun?
altho chattin to a bloke a few weeks ago who said he was gettin shot of his coz if he was drivin after 11pm he always got pulled by plod coz they thort he was a didi
-
surance and parts to dear plus a real dids motor
-
chav dids at that
-
how bout lookin at gettin the 6/7 seat conversion from a volvo off fleabay and that may open ya market on a 4x4?
-
have considered almost everything but they all lack pram/luggage space
we lookin at a minibus size vehicle in reality to have enough room and a transit really would be a did mobile and ldv :hysterical:
so the only non jap thing that can do everything seems to be a 110
plus i need to be able to fix my own i am not going to pay others due to lektrikifcation problems
-
looks like ya doomed to a landy then mate :003:

Bubba shaggin wagon :hysterical:
-
yes i fully understand the mirt this will attract but heyhoo to fit the mpg size fixability and towing there are few options
-
you should try an espace, then u will be the subject of some mirth :003:
-
:hysterical: i am not that sad or daft :hysterical: :hysterical:

shogun?
altho chattin to a bloke a few weeks ago who said he was gettin shot of his coz if he was drivin after 11pm he always got pulled by plod coz they thort he was a didi
Shoguns no good,if you get a 7 seater, theres no room for nothing in the back really, after looking at mine, the 110 makes perfect sense and ticks every box on Bubbas list, though at the momnet mine wont do the 30mpg due to the fuel leak...... :011:
-
how bout lookin at gettin the 6/7 seat conversion from a volvo off fleabay and that may open ya market on a 4x4?
Again,no good, yes it has the seats, but extra seats are in the boot,so if you use them, you lose all the luggage space
-
had a shock just asked fux about surance very cheap septin a funny thing they wont do a twelve seater very odd
-
had a shock just asked fux about surance very cheap septin a funny thing they wont do a twelve seater very odd
I guess with 12 seats it becomes a minibus, but i wouldnt fit 12 seats anyway. You can actually get individual seats for the rear instead of bench seats and you get 2 each side so will make it only 10 seats, like these

dunno can anyone clarify the point it becomes mini bus
-
see here

-
8 seams the magic no
-
Get a 110 and just fit 2 single seats in the rear,i reckon with a bit of fabrication you could fit the dickie seats from a Discovery, and then they fold up neat and still loads of boot space, with seats up or down
-
ford transit tourneo
just take out the seats you dont need and it becomes carrying space downside is the secondhand prices
-
looked the smilys are sought by pikys and the diesels have to much lektrikification
-
Public transport then !!

Mercedes Vito (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-MERCEDES-VITO-110-CDI-TRAVELINER-BLACK-/130562125417?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1e661bee69)
I use an earlier non turbo van quite often and it's a little gutless towing a car trailer, but the CDi is much better. I've been from Aylesbury to Bournemouth and back on 1/3 of a tank, and I wasn't sparing the horses :icon_super:

When it comes to Minibus like vehicles how about a Chrysler Grand Voyager? 2 + 2 + 3 plus bags behind. It is the only one of these things I have seen that lets you use all the seats and has plenty of space for bags.
I used to borrow my mates for holidays and I liked the driving position so much that I bought myself one a couple of months ago.
I got a V6 3.3 litre 51 plate for a little over 2 grand, but they do diesel ones as well. Mine had a tow bar but I took it off so I don't know how it pulls.
It's a thirsty bugger and so stupidly big I can't park it and for just the daughter and me most of the time its too f...... large but it is airy and spacious and the AC is cold.
Plus it's made by those wonderful people in Graz and when you open the hood you recognise all these parts they got from the Jeep/Chrysler parts bin and it's designed to be repaired by that same guy in Iowa City, you know the one, the high school drop out so its probably fixable by your good self.
-
I have been immersin myself in Dutch's Dutch Jeep site, especially in the FSJ section, and subsequently can ya look at how much space I have under/along the fuel tank when there is no spare tyre underneath- please - coz if i understand the Dutch gibberish correctly I have room for either a bigger or twin fuel tank, which should double my range
coud ya please confirm next time ya on ya back in the workshop please Pa
no need now, 33 gallon ford bronco tank is the answer, doubles capacity and a perfect fit where the OEM spare went :icon_super:
nice & cheap as a new steel one as well
-
i can report that my scrambler sadness is over and i can smile once again :icon_winkle: :steeringwheel: :icon_super:
now i can fix the fluff generator and start things afresh
-
Cool, the Bastard will b home again soon :greggmo:

Anyways, if you come accross a old CJ7 fuse block with connectors & fuses in.....
radio & CB are now fed by clock.....so clock no worky.
Who said old iron came without electrickery :icon_rolleyes:
With an aftermarket immobilizer installed there's more wires in there than the QEII.
Bitch is that over the years previous owners probably have installed and dismanteled various audio & lights
that I've now got at least 15 cables going nowhere and they all seem to go or exit from a junction box related or tied into this immobilizer
thingamabob. :017:
Short of blowing something up I'm treading very carefully here.
-
how about using something like this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Way-Standard-Blade-Fuse-Box-cover-/270810551955?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0d911693#ht_1058wt_1165) fed from the battery and controlled by a relay off the ignition trigger for all the 'extras'? will keep the original as is and not put any extra strain on the old loom
-
:iagree:
create a seperate dedicated 12v supply for ease of connection for external applications. With a the space in the engine bay you could afford a bigger fuse bank to cater for more lights, 12v internal supply to the rear of the jeep etc
-
:iagree: :iagree:
That's basically what i did with ours
-
damn u know it alls - another lost sale :011:
tbh Dutch at that price prob not worth it but will have a look for one if you want - u r welcome to it for a freebie
-

Awww BD, your xmas spirit is really touching :003:
If you could yes please, got most of my original connectors in the main block missing.
I can then rewire clock to clock and the audio/CB to the radio outlet. I guess that's also routed via the ignition
so battery does not drain.
-
I would wire your CB direct so can use it when you drop your keys in the mud you can call for help
also wire one 12v outlet direct so you can charge a phone without leaving your keys in your jeep
-
Keys? A CJ? :hysterical:
-

:lol_hitting: Funny BJ......ehm but I know where your're coming from.....armchair mobile :hysterical:
When you go out in a CJ you come packin !!! fully charged mobile, toolbox, waterproofs, spare fuel, thermals.... the lot :hysterical:
-
sorry forgot it's not the easiest to lose a starting handle :lol_hitting:
-
the CB and cig lighter are always live (not through the ignition) in my CJ as is the winch but that has its own cut off switch
-
now i like to use those fuse blocks on there own supply
-
Dependant on date could be up for something...
-
i must make more effort to update this thread after all theree is stuff afoot on my fleet as well as the odd outsider
as it stands there is
ongoing mindy mods and upkeep
willys to start shortly
orvis zj to recomision [think i will see if lasredo grill will fit ] and other work
zj laredo to sell break rob or whatever
-
been busy here too, got blue truck running as my daily driver :greggmo:
red truck is in for repairs and maintenance, maybe a few upgrades
needs bumper repair and strengthening, upgrade to heavy duty tie rod, replace flare and straighten fender
already noticed front pinion seal and steering box are leaking and thats just working from front to back and not getting halfway yet :icon_rolleyes:
-
I'm waiting for Steve at FTE to manufacture his heavy duty steering upgrade, which will have a steering box brace, heavy duty tie rod and Panard rod.
-

and heavy price to reflect, why do you need a heavy duty steering anyhow standard TJ is pretty good....
-
Go hydro!!!
-
I'm running 35's and been through two boxes and bent a few tie rods, and I dont want to see my chassis steering mounts go because I didn't strengthen it

strange :017:, still sounds like a good sell :003:

Where's this new found motivation come from? Don't tell me with a clean workshop your desperate to get it dirty
-
lol that A frame has taken a year as it happens lol the frame came from the mod in a load of scrap but the ends were wrong for my use they needed rotating rotating 180deg enter lard stage left so he takes it to work to do in a lunch break anyhoo we both sorta forget it and a year later i reminded him and he brought it to the pub meet saterday :hysterical:
he also made me some funky bumper brackets but i they wernt gonna work when offered up so i made my own up so its a mod bubba lard combo but i am pleased with the end result :icon_super:
the only issue i have is the pile of crap limp wristed zj as the lpg kit is not working bastard thing :banghead: .......................... could be a problem
-
well post cheapfest update is that the 3b has suffered oil pump failure so needs a new engine i have been looking for a turbo lump and was hoping to copy a a bell housing to mod the starter motor area but idea is curantly shelved due to too much stuff going on and fluff related issues
so i am now thinking of taking a couple of years of and just tinkering slowly at an affordable rate
other tinkering will carry on and at the moment i have yota landcruiser in with its engine apart but sadly its scrap due to a cracked bore so that is sitting awaiting an engine
there is a stranded tj that i will be hoping to get mobile on sunday but cant help feeling a bit unsure of the days outcome but we shall see
on a good news front the 2a will be mot exempt in november which is an incentive in itself as once on the road annual costs will be minimal i also here there is talk of the exemption extending poss up to 1980 but more like 1970
-

And as per usual your concerns were well considered but as usual you had a plan :icon_winkle:
Cheers Kev :icon_jook:

well a trip was made to gazes stately home and a repair was effected before the dogs were turned on me [gaz looks more like monty burns each time i see him] so any way new flexy pipes now fitted and job seems a good un gaz i suspect may be a pervert he has mirrors on the wall and a shiny floor to his garage :017:
yota seems to have a plan forming hopefully a donor vehicle will be found so the original head gasket plan has developed in to a much bigger job than first planned
other plans are slowly forming though i feel pressure is off me though it does mean no offroadin for the turkey hunt only there as support this year
-
Oi Smithers ya cheeky sod :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

more of a barney gumbole i feel

I'm impressed. I wish I had a workshop like that Bubba - I would be living in it.
What car shampoo did you use on that Jeep. Made it shrink a bit, did'nt it?
-
Service time at MJS along with extra's like new braided brake lines, wheel spacers & UJ's etc was the order of the day, bit more to come today. Bit of a downer was the front hub bearings that were replaced not long ago need replacing already :icon_sad:
Biggest smile of the day, apart from Ally's bacon sarnie goes to Kevs spare mindy :icon_biggrin:. Bit of shunting around of trucks was needed in the day but come close of play, a car that had not been started for 12 months, had only been run twice on the previous 3-5 years, with 5 year old diesel in it, not only started, but started 1st time after only 2-3 revolutions of its little engine :icon_eek:
Un ber feckin leavable ..... Ya gotta love them there Mindy's :icon_super:

you lazy git, you got someone to fit the spacers for you :hysterical:

Indeed I am mate, Panic & his box of special electrickery that whispers to der panzer in soothing tones has worked its magic once more, thank you most kindly :icon_winkle:
However, his parting words were, now fuck off & dont come back ...... followed by "I'm moving house before anyone else brings me another patient" :hysterical:

well tonight is a 40th family party so have a full on night of food and fun no drink cos i am drivin but in the morning i think i might do a transfer case change and new front springs on our zj the viscous coupling has been a bit feckered for a while and later on possibly some compression testing
all dependent on how exited i feel in the morning
-
you putting an XJ one in
-
so the last couple of weeks have been interestin at least
i changed the transfer box on larry
looked at jays wj to rule out the head gasket then left him to consider options but i see this is now in hand so thats good in fact it been a bit busy with way to much family and work stuff i hardly looked at the forum but in that time i got a call from a mate at 9pm to say his breakdown truck had broken down :hysterical:
so i towed him back and fixed out side his house 7.5 ton iveco
then in desperation i had to do a head gasket on a mitsubishi space thing folowed by some brake work on said iveco
andv today a some bits on a diesel wj
i bin so busy you would think with workin all the hours i do i would be minted :hysterical: i dunno if i have to many freinds or weather i am too good a friend at times :017:
crimbo is beatin on the door and as a doing my best father i have got to pull some rabbits out of the hat but first i need a hat in fact i am tossing over weather to sell my mindy only thing stopping me is the values are going up so fast i doubt i could replace it
-
on a good note i found this in the tool box of the 2a

Photo bucket ones not showing, have you got them set to public ?
Dont you dare sell anything Mindy related or I will personnally nick your sandwich box :icon_twisted:
-
The shift on them FM's was always shit after they went to cable change. Old linkage was much better.
Luck escape with that center bearing collapsing, bet it went with a right clatter.
-
yup cable change is wank on it when it let rip i was under a junction island so there was no hard shoulder so had to coast as far as i could to safety
well today i was hoping to tinker with my own stuff but nope .......................... gotta go shoppin :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
-
bit of tinkering with another wj today cv boots i have a bad feeling about
-
bit of tinkering with another wj today cv boots i have a bad feeling about
Aaaaahhh, know all about that. brake bits off, hub off, shaft out, check CV, if ok repack with grease, new boots on with the dreaded ss clips and bolt the whole thing back together again.
Made easier if the whole front end is off the ground so you can move the steering around to get at the bolts at the back. (or are we takin drive shaft CV's)?
Good luck.
-
all done plus new belt pullys on a 3.1
-
if it turns up today i should be fitting a jhay bar to the front of a wj
its v cold outside so i may not be upset if it dont arrive
-
the jhay bar job went well seems a daft idea to junk the recovery points for a bit of bling but heyhoo up to the owner
there will be no workshop activity this weekend due to the fact that tomorrow i will be doing my yearly stint as santa for the children at the local primary school and surestart
then on to help with the turkey hunt on the afternoon and sunday
i dont think much will then happen untill new year when i have decided that probably i wont have an offroader next season but will be hoping to start a project building a surplus special in fact i think thats what i will call it so keep a look out for updates on that and keeping larry the zj alive [grave misgivings] on that but we will see

Last weekend spent tarting up the CJ7, cleaning & polishing (it might as well look good at the garage)
Just had the back in the air to clean and adjust rear brakes. All feels good and it seems I got a bit of handbrake as well (as long as it lasts 5 mins) :icon_super:
Fist MOT since Bubba did his magic in October 2011.
Fingers XX's for Monday.

Too long since last update if you are intersted I am sorry if are not turnips too ya !
Well been abit stop go in the workshop had a few things through did a clutch on some Toyota car thing simple enough but man cars are dull serviced a couple of nice tjs from retuning folk ta guys its a big help
Also had interesting proplem that highlits the dificulty in diagnosing problems on a forum ..... wj with reoccurring brake binding problem owner was helpfuly pointed in a few directions but was recomended to change brake flexys so I fitted them and after removal I blew through them from both ends and was hopeful but was not convinced
Anyhoo problem was not resolved and was wose due to a duff abs sensor (me disturbing it)
I had not been happy with fluid and comented on it so when it returned I investigated with that thought in mind upshot was full fluid change and replacement master cylinder and all was and is still hunkydunky
-
Also did full supension changes on a pair of fiat mutiplas :banghead: :banghead: why must I be punished so :icon_rolleyes: :010:
And at the mo I have an alpha spider to recomision after several years resting outside
Also changed the family steed to a 4.0 lpg wj man its super uber gay
But it does tow very well

About time there was another update here :icon_winkle:
Granted your recent weeks have been spent underneath a roller skate welding, welding & a bit more welding :icon_super:
Your efforts are thoroughly appreciated mate :icon_super:

I can safely (which wasnt a work used before, Gaz witnessed it) say that the WJ brakes are still perfect and working as they should.
Budda also did full polybush on the WJ and replaced control arms on it.
Just waiting for a garage slot for a bit more tinkering.

Standard Aero springs are quite crashy, Eibach's are a known upgrade. It will still be a firm ride but less crashy.
Kev, I do believe a comment was made about there been posh motors out side your house, I guess Lord Flash was there as well lol.
-
Could be an update here later :icon_winkle:
-
Dont mention duff diffs lol
-
Right update is folowing several regears and axle rebuilds I find I still seem unable to get photobucket to work with my tablet .....bastard thing wish I had gone for a lappy now... so still no photo updates
Today sees a two pronged mission to darford and romford myself and monty burns are going with the shedford (mk1 tdi disco) and a trailer to firstly collect the ex jeepky and ex bulldog 2dr xj
then we shall head towards romford to collect and trailer a 3.0 capri for monty which will come into the workshop
for some love and an mot
xj will get a look over and become my daily and light greenlaner and work hack and hopefully will remain unless I drop lucky with a comanche pickup
I shall update a bit later and once again fight my phonevand tablet to try and get some pics up
-
Have fun and a safe one
-

well fair bit to do today already done a bit yesterday the shedford proved its usefulness once again by towing tanks dead toyota landcruiser from mine to a maqte of his for some love and major surgery
i loath the shedford but it is remarkably useful and at times question mysef about selling it after all if it went bang tomorrow its worth 300 scrap and i reckon 400 as parts so i am selling it to make roughly 400ish above scrap i still think its worth more but heyhoo
-
Keep it, but keep it hidden out of sight & swear the kids to secrecy :003: ...... its worth more to you IMHO :icon_winkle:
-
Keep it....... It will always have a use as you have proved.....
I did question my own sanity getting the Ram for towing........which I don't do every day?
But every week it gets used........8x4 sheets and tool hauler this week...... Garden waste for a neighbour......and 10 muck buckets full of mud.....
More neighbourly duty......
8 fence panels.......
Amazing how they come out of the woodwork to ask a favour when ya got herself a hauler
-
Had similar thoughts before buying the trailer - it's a pain in the arse to store at home but I've already done some tip runs and had people ask if I might be able to move furniture and big stuff for them.
Keep the shedford as a tool and treat it as such.
-
:iagree:
If you can keep it and use it as skip / load lugger
-
but its just so :icon_oak: :icon_oak: and a little :icon_anal:

well I surgically removed the furry dice they are now wafting for spunkys cars to come in for the photo opportunity :hysterical: but the capri had the fuel pump changed anti freeze changed brake fluid changed and the ...................bonnet clip changed

lots been going on with work garage and general tinkering currently in the middle of a big job on a big wj with issues rather miffed with myself as its taken much longer than expected to get started and due to juggling stuff will now not be finished in time for cheapfest as planned :icon_redface: i really hate letting folk down but refuse to do a poor job for the want of rushing
due to unexpected problems with the m1008 i have to fix and prep my own junk to be able to do my part in cheapfest
here is a couple of funny things found on rear axle of said wj not sure of history on it
wheel bearings wrong way round both sides

Omg I thought mine was unusual but that is downright awful :banghead:
-
some people are qualified mechanics
some people know nothing about mechanics
some people claim they know about mechanics
actions confirm the above
-
i have yet to find out but have an idea the axles were supplied rebuilt by a jeep specialist and breaker but cant be sure til i have more info
-
the point is you can easily rectify the issue, could have been more frustrating if the bearing had collapsed and damaged the shaft in the process
-
you just cant count on previous owners to actually know what they are doing
-
i have yet to find out but have an idea the axles were supplied rebuilt by a jeep specialist and breaker but cant be sure til i have more info
I ain't naming names but I no longer deal with them!
Fook me that is quite scary, that axle did 60k miles of motorway ragging in that state :icon_eek:
-
tell you what a good mot station is a bloody good thing to have yesterday due to the continued high level of harassment from work i dropped a wj off for mot after some major work [ jeep has been monkey on my back for a while just trying to get on with it] at 4am due to going to work i then walked to work
as is always the way with my company these days tasks took longer than hoped so missed them closing up but they rang me told me all was good and it was nice to see so many new parts on a kitted truck put the ticket and keys up for me to collect and to not worry about the cash pop buy in the week and pay
so after work i walked to the mot place and collected the jeep .......................i think thats bloody good especially in the cant give a fuck world we seem to have
this also brings to a close possibly the longest regear and other work in history all highly embarrassing but it is at least a spare play vehicle and they did say no rush on it but i did not mean to take him on his word :icon_redface:
was meant to go to work today but ................fek it i musta done 60hrs this week
-
Always good to hear, the WK went to our local commercial place for MOT the other week. Passed and they dropped it back down the folks place as they were passing to pick up a part for the horse lorry.
I called to pay over the phone and they said just sort it when we collect the lorry.

the wj that i took far to long to finish though it sounds like it may have fallen victem to cheap after market rear axle seals as one seems to be leaking ......arse :icon_redface: so it may have to return for rectification
we have done

a few minor problems
so that the first of two tjs can come in one for locker instal and one for regear the push is on for me as i have to as a dad pull some rabbits out of a hat for crimbo
mr whippy waits for time and funds for a few jobs to get on the road
my as yet unnamed chevy cucv waits for service and tyres
the merc estate performs well but is a little dull
-
I HATE HATE HATE that merc they loaned me, its the dullest motor I have ever drivem - at least if it had of been a 1.0 lt corsa I would have had some fun thrashing the arse off it
-
bollocks arse and arse again gets up early to check embers on bonfire you know rake them all together to finish burning off then in to garage to finish a tj and
no power in garage so got to fix that first so now need to trace the problem always it seems when there is loads to do sothing foils my not so cunning plan but i spose the fact the garage is still powered by the temporary power lead from thirteen years ago is no help
-
recent stuff
aussie locker in to a tj plus other bits n bobs

the new jeep is a left hand drive v8 zj in need of some lovin but overall in good shape the chevy one again excelled
-
tinkerings for today are
clutch plates on a d35 diff
hopefully fix a leak on our mercedes estate so it can go on ebay [nice car for a w plate 2000]
then mot work on a very shiny tj from the land of mer
-
Is this thread no longer visable ? :017:
-
Yep, all good here
Are you trying to tell me you have brocken the TJ :003:
-
yep nice pics of ZJ
-
Is this thread no longer visable ? :017:
Well visible .....what are are your plans for the V8 ZJ.???????
-
Bout time you manned up and went V8 again
-
:imwitstupid:
-
its still on the trailer on my drive while i consider options merc is on ebay seems to be worthless :banghead: but heyhoo
so far v8 zj will see family duty's green lanes and far in to the future to do tow rig stuff the chevy does
-
i have a lust that must be fulfilled :97:
-
Tease
-
funny thing jeeps nothing ever is as simple as it seems got a face lift xj in for rear axle rebuild but turns out needs gears too
so as no parts yet going to unload the v8zj and asses the mot issues things i know of are a big hole in one sill and the fact the strange after marked head lamps have facility for adjustment :017: so standards may need to be found
i suspect a lot of small shit needs doing/ altering but hopefully not to much expensive stuff as the funds are a little strained at the mo
-
That hole in the cill???
Are you going to patch or do the big replacement with rectangular section??
I started off thinking patch but it was all a bit wet digestive when I went in for and exploratory!
Worked though......still being run by the bro in law 4 years on :icon_super:
-
Got the same on my ZJ on the sill. Needs sorting soon so can get it re mot'd
-
Box section would be my choice. It means being brave with the grinder but is less fiddly than thin repair panels and waiting for the next bit to rust out the following year.
-
Add about 50 lbs to each side.......makes it far more manly :icon_super:
-
bit of an update as i have been busy drowning kittens shooting unicorns and generally being a despot
v8zj

norm was a truly unexpected turn of events and simply too good to scrap
-
there have been other trucks in but sadly no pics
one thing i found on zj norm was the third brake light in the tailgate was a full blown plastic dummy light i have never seen this before on a jeep maybe mike pavlin knows about this norm is a 96
-
Busy you have been master yoda :003:
-
1998 is the requirement year and fully working (correct if wrong)
-
today i am looking for genuine exhast parts for my chevy pickup things are not looking good at the mo and it might end up a home brew system
-
Good luck with the exhaust, personally if you're planning on keeping it in your fleet, I'd get a full custom stainless one made, there's some good companies doing them at reasonable rates..
-
STACKS STACKS STACKS
-
:imwitstupid: :iagree: :icon_super:
-
stainless full job will be on the cards but this year will be mucho cheapo options
-
redneck option

may work
-
i already have some 90 degree pipes that would be ideal but no cherry bomb/tractor exhaust to fit to them i think strait pipes of just over six foot might be a little too much bark for the ears to take
-
as i cant make the breakout and fact i have a bit of an opening this weekend i am going to give the chevy some lovin and asses what it might need for its mot next month
also goung to give some consideration to its overall looks i think a repaint in satin nato might be cool undecided as weather to re camo or just one solid colour
if it needs much spending on it may be parked up for a few weeks as its high season for kids birthdays at the mo
-
how it looks at the mo

IMHO... the only thing that spoils the look is the sign on the door....and the tailgate!

they may be going in re hash

NATO flat or satin would look good.

Yes, all early UK models had the dummy unit fitted.

nearly gone also found desert sand paint under several layers of green then green as first coat
-

try some 285 75 16 s 32.8 tall 11.5 wide a lot more available
-
:imwitstupid:
-
15" tyres = imperial sizes
16" tyres = metric sizes
-
Shouldn't the Chevy have 16.5" wheels
-
standard cucv wheel is 16 though military hummer is 16.5 and near identical wheel
-
so last few weeks have been busy with work and life but did manage to put a lift on a tj and bring home a new truck

Installed an Advance Adapters SYE, Adams CV Driveshaft and adjustable UCA's on my TJ. Imported the lot from Adams Driveshaft and Offroad, Henderson, NV. They ship USPS and the parts were received within 7 working days and the total cost including all parts, shipping and import taxes was £690. Vibes now gone, TC back where it should be, much better gear shifting esp 1st to 2nd.

Replaced the transfer end CV on the front prop, front wheel bearings and axle end UJ on rear prop this week...
Jeep is much quieter, well it was until the new CV joint imploded on a dual carriageway at [the speed limit, honest].
Replacement 'better brand' part on the way, but for anyone fitting one if the seal seems a poor fit don't bother and get it replaced - I recon a poor seal caused the grease to spin out which then caused the joint to fail.

its a 98 chevy blazer 4.3 v6 bought cheaply as a non runner owner was convinced it was head gasket but with 11 months mot and a set of new tyres it was worth a 400 quid gamble very low miles too

Are you stripping it and using the engine in something 'flatfender' or getting it going and punting it out?
Good find :icon_super:
