Engine check light p1680 ? WJ Grand
« on: August 20, 2010, 11:30:37 PM »

Hi,

I have this code come up on my Grand 2.7 2002, the code say its the Clutch released switch circuit.

Can someone point me in right direction to how to get it sorted ?

But its has only come up in the last few days and if I start the car it only give 50% power but if I reset the ignition the car will drive fine bit with the engine check light on ?

Also I have been told I have a rear brake light out could this have something to do with it, I know its a long shot but you never know.

I have also tried to scan the fault codes but the reader will not connect, is the Jeep OBD 2 compatible ?

Sorry about all the questions but its getting to me now  as this is the 1st fault I have had for 18month of trouble free motoring. :(

Cheers

You have a 2.7 diesel. Although this is an OBDII vehicle it can be particularly difficult to get into with a generic scanner due to the mix of Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz components used. The code P1680 indicates one of several possible internal powertrain control module faults. Don't know how you came up with this code but I would reccomend going somewhere with a Chrysler DRBIII scan tool to get it scanned properly.                                P1680-EEPROM PLAUSIBILITY CHECKSUM ERROR
P1680-EEPROM PLAUSIBILITY CODE WORD INCORRECT OR MISSING
P1680-EEPROM PLAUSIBILITY COMMUNICATION ERROR
P1680-EEPROM PLAUSIBILITY VARIATION NUMBER ERROR
P1680-EEPROM PLAUSIBILITY VIN CHECKSUM ERROR
P1680-EEPROM PLAUSIBILITY WRITE ERROR

Hi,

I did the turn the key in the ignition trick and the codes come up on the dash.

From the sounds of it, it could get expensive if its an EEPROM error, if I just replaced the ecu with another from a 2.7 do you think it will clear it, or do you think the DRBIII scan tool will clear the error.

Again sorry for the questions as I know nothing about Jeeps, Mistubishi's I am fine with..... :icon_biggrin:

 :iagree:

Yeah tell me about it, if I switch it on and off a few times it clears and drivers fine, This is the 1st Jeep I have owned and to be fair 20k trouble free miles and this is just a little glitch, I cant see me selling it as it does everything that I need and more.

What is the going rate from a dealer then to plug in and clear/sort the code, does anyone know ?

But if anyone works for Jeep or has the tools for job and live around Kent and can feel free to offer your services

Hi Dutch,

Looked like a cheap solution, on a plus note a very good mate of mine works for ford but they are also a Jeep approved repair centre, so I will be running it up to him for a bit FOC work  :icon_super:

I will up date the thread with what they find but if anyone has an ideas please feel free to add them.

It won't run on the PCM from another one unless a dealer programs it into the security system.

Just a quick update...........

I took the Jeep down to the dealers today they plugged it in and updated the ecu so they told me, cleared all the fault codes and gave it the once over, they came back with faulty bonnet lifters, heated seats faulty (which they are going to do on a recall) but the bit which pee'd me the most was they said it would need new disc's in about 6 months, the reason it pee'd me a bit is that I have just fitted new pads and disc's, well about about 3 months ago so either the fitter didn't look at them  or he should has gone to specsavers as they are still like new :)

All in it cost me £50 and now its back to way it was if anything its bit smoother to drive.

Cheers
