No heat? Give up or fix it?

I've recently bought a relay for the a/c fan, which isn't there, having taken grills off, lights out etc as..apparently mines a ZJ not a WJ? as the lights slightly dip ever time the a/c fan kicks in, which is on and off all the time...
So the nub is.. The inside never gets warm,,misses not happy  :jpshakehead:, as a novice am I safer to get rid...especially as the clutch will need replacing in the next 18 months..paid.£2.3k for it.  Thanks for any help.. But please don't get too techy. Or can anyone recommend someone to repair it in the Ludlow/ Herefordshire area?

Oops 1998 Orvis Cherokee 2.5 manual .. Forgot that bit.... Just did the key, trip reset fault code thingy..wowsers..no faults showing there...

Would this be the dreaded 2.5 VM engine....?

I have the same engine in my Cherokee , and like yours the heat from the heater is dismal to say the least...

It chucks out just enough heat to keep the windows demisted , but in winter its just not warm and cosy in there at all...

I am sure the experts will tell you to give your system a good flush through to make sure your heater core is not full of crap...didn.t make much difference to mine i have to say...

My Honda car is as warm as toast during a Polish winter...In my Jeep i just wear some warm clothes...

Gaz that is the safer option but they are crap plain and simple.

you get more heat from a set of gloves and a hat.

Is the engine temperature getting up to normal properly? Wondering if it could be coolant thermostat stuck open. Also, diesels take a wee while to heat up..... p'raps it isn't running long enough to get hot.

If he has got the VM engine the heads will crack soon enough....they heat up pretty dam quick when that happens....!

you can gt the heaters working well - need cleaning.

One I had I had to use diet coke in the heater matrix to help get the crud out

Some of the suggestions  :003: :003: :003: excellent.

However....................I don't know a great deal about the 2.5 but I did have a very similar problem on my 2.7crd.

Everything appeared to be fine, including the engine heating up. However the engine wasn't getting quite hot enough. A thermostat change solved it  :icon_super: :icon_super:

Very very little noticeable change on the gauges etc but I reckon the new thermo opening and closing more appropriately tipped over the edge to warm effeiciency.

May be worth a go  :017:

blockage or air lock in the heater matrix.

both hoses should be hot going into the bulkhead, if one is cold then you have a blockage

Hi, I dont want to hijack your thread, but with the weather turning cooler I have noticed the same on my 2000 Grand Cherokee 3.1d (WJ I think). The heater flaps are working fine, but the matrix does not get hot, not like the main radiator and one of the pipes going to it is not hot at all compared with the other one, is it worth back-flushing the heater matrix or am I just hoping it will fix it?

Thanks for answers.. Will give heater on the dash a miss.. Got gloves and hat already.. Car heats up ok on temperature gauges.. Had new temp stat fitted... Guess chuck some coke in and check pipes top n bottom for circulation....

Which manual should I get?  Had the the coolant replaced and rads fllushed but don't think the heater matrix would have been flushed?   Still blowing tepid air... I need to be sure which pipes I'm taking off and flushing 2000 Orvis 2.5

try it  :003:

okay, so I did and the heater works, I will be giving it another flush out as there was quite a bit of crud in it.



keeping the water and crap out of the garage by using pipes and flushing it with the hose pipe



connections



and some of the solid crud that was washed out.
