Off roading a Grand.....

Whats the tricks for gear box use?

Know 1st low for steep descents

2nd low for steep ascents
but what rev range should I be working with

When should I switch from auto to 1st low/2 low?

Generally, offroad, I'd leave it in 2nd low unless you are on a steep decent, then 1st low. Think there's a funny thing with the Jeep auto where you have to be stopped before locking it into first otherwise it stays in second or something. can make an interesting decent... :) sure someone else will add some Valuable comments soon :twisted:

Dunno if a grand is the same as an XJ but on XJ 1 & 2 are in the same position on the shifter Stew, I got 1 & 2 then 3 then D.

Whats the positions on yours ?

D -2-1 but its permanent 4 wheel drive unlike the XJ Quadra drive I think its called

Stew,
 IIRC at Ribbo last year i was in 2 lo most of the time, like ed says apart from steep descents. I was switching manually between 1 an 2 lo some of the time but I didnt have the thing the XJs have with havin to lock into 1 lo and there was nowhere flat enough to get into D.
It wasnt very muddy where i went tho  :roll:

Good call Dodster from what I've tried auto low seems like 2 low till I rev up..I'll keep experimenting tho :?  8)
