Bored TB???

Hi guys, does anybody know where I can get my TB bored out in the South Wales region??? or...... does anyone know where I can purchase one for sensible - ish money???

Don't waste yer money......

JP mag did a monster test on all the usual suspects and dynoed each mod individually and accumulatively and spacers and bored tbs make naf all difference..... But you might hear it whistle cos that's what happens :icon_twisted: IEC and stuff :jpshakehead:

biggest bang for your buck is a free flow exhaust.......cheaper the better and make it herself if you can....... magnaflow and Borla will only improve your wallet weight loss :icon_super:
That and a K and N filter kit to get rid of tortuous tube and shit and factory......stuff.

The only difference you will feel is at about 1500 to 2000 where there will be a bit more grunt..... Anything more will just lighten your wallet like I said.........

4 litre engines go on for 250,000 or more if oil changes and water levels are looked after.

By contrast again a stat from JP Mag.....  Of all the 4.7 strokes engines and stuff they have tested...... None have made it past 20,000 miles without a serious issue......

So as we are trying to say..... don't waste your wedge :icon_super:

I think it might be a bit late tbh. I've already been modding the engine for a while now,
& so far it stands:

K&N cold air intake,
Neon injectors,
Power torque cylinder head,
Banks headers & 2.5" free flow exhaust with cherry bomb glass pack,
99' intake manifold,

I just want the bored TB to finnish off the build really, until I decide to turbo or charge it.
Most of the parts I got when I was travelling in the US so were next to nothing. 

So what I want/need to finish it off are:

Bored TB, (maybe a spacer - no real gains I doubt)
A decent tuner or aem ecu to remap/ chip it.

In all honesty this is the cheapest & most fun vehicle I have modded ( I drift an rx7 which is at the opposite end of the scales) so I don't mind spending a few ££'s on it as I only paid £450 for it with 75k on her.

Got a JET Performance Module for a 4.0 litre of your age..... Plugs in after the factory ECU.......gives a bit more power by telling lies and giving the engine more fuel....


Yours for £20 plus postage should you want......

Is it stage 1 or 2 the jet chip??? I'll take it either way tbh, send me a PM & I'll sort some £££'s your way.
I like the Hesco units but are very overpriced, when I could get a used Throttle & refurb & bore it for half the price.

The module is a Part no 99112-S
google tells me that it is a Stage 2 Module to fit Dakota Ram Cherokee Grand Waggy Wrangler

BUT up to 1996
Says gives up to 25 BHP more

Tis still in its hermetically sealed bag with all boxing and instructions.....feck me they ain't cheap $200 or more  :jpshakehead:

My throttle body was bored out because I could do it for free at work. Never noticed a difference at all but it cost nothing so it didn't matter.

The whistling is easily fixed by filing a few vertical notches in the upper edge of the lower idle air port. When the starts to open the air is sucked between the butterfly and this sharp edge causing the whistle.

On a side note I have 40k plus on my stroker and have never had an issue. I think alot of them get bad press since there was quite a few companies flogging junk in the states that never lasted. Hesco has a good name but they are also famous for the prices.

Indeed they do, I just think a Bored TB is the missing link between all the other mods on the engine so far & when it comes to turbo or charge time a bored TB will be a must.

If you are going boost a bored out TB will not matter. Forcing air through a small hole is much easier then sucking it.

What size is the bore of a stock TB then?  I'd be surprised if it's restrictive TBH, but without knowing the size, that's pure guesswork on my part.

The engine capacity isn't particularly relevent - it's the flow, and you can pretty much tie that directly to the power as well. Low flow means low power, regardless of engine capacity, and vice versa.

Funny enough, the topic of TB size was on another fourm I frequent this very morning, so it's probably worth posting the same quote here.

This is from Jenvey, who make throttle bodies for a living. Context was single large TB and plenum inlet, just like our engines.

"It helps to understand the relationship between size and output to consider that a 2L Formula 3 engine produces 200+BHP through a 26mm (531 mm2) restrictor and a 75mm throttle body is eight times larger at 4,418 mm2! Similarly, in an experiment to curb the power of 270 BHP touring car engines, we reduced the size of the single throttle body to less than 44mm (1520 mm2) before there was any noticeable reduction. A 75mm body has three times the flow."

I think the bore thing on a Jeep is about making the bore parrallel which as std is not. Might make it a mm bigger as well not sure.....

Obviously, my comment is a drastic oversimplification...but all other things being equal more flow = more air = more charge and as long as the fuelling & timing is adapted to suit, more power.

Ah, that kind of Pi.  If so, yus indeed. That's why I was curious about the stock bore of the TB - to work out the area. I'm sad like that....

Parallel bore isn't neccesarily a problem, tapering can be a good thing if done right - but if it was stepped that would be bad.
