good idea but it's never been good practice to use a line lock as a long term wheel brake. Logn durations of pressure in the lines has a bad effect on the std hoses. short term use ok or just leave the jeep in gear.

I'm considering rear discs from a ZJ. The swap's easy enough, it's just finding one breaking for reasonable money.

What the idea behind the Rover Calipers?? I've not heard of that much before.

As you need to splice the line lock into your rear brake feed an upgrade to stainess braided lines makes the job much easier. It also negates the problem you are referring to if you run them all the way to the calipers.

i heard thats the calipers MDG usr in there kits.

 there hydro mechanical ( and cheap to buy)
and with a set of grand discs or front xj disc (if the capiler accept vented discs)  its a case of getting some brackets made up

The AMC20 that I bought from KingCJ has a MDG disc conversion on it.

It uses Rover 820 rear calipers and Suzuki SJ front discs. The Goodridge hoses, brackets and handbrake cables are specifically made.

Ihave a ZJ, my wife has a ZJ her hand brake is good mine is crap, even though the rear discs, brake pads and handbrake shoes are new. How does that work? I am hoping that mine will come good.  Until then it gets left in gear.

i am deffo gonna look into the line lock for off road use. but it is always good to leave em in  gear. i see we have a new poster

line lock is not mot acceptable and i believe that it only guarantees hold for 20 seconds or something like that.

ZJ rear discs are brake pedal operated only, the handbrake uses a smaller drum brake and shoe layout and it is useless after a couple of mud runs. I always have to manually re-tension a day or 2 later.

yeah looked at that and found that they won't fit my cherry but i believe the wifes rav 4 discs do and i've just changed the front ones

I'm not really doing it for the handbrake as I have an auto and only need a handbrake a few times a year. If the ZJ drum setup is like the XJ one, it's all about cleaning them and re-tensioning every coule of weeks. I looked up the Rover calipers and can see the advantage of them, it's just sorting out the brackets and discs that needs some investigation.[/quote]

i'm fed up with redoing the hand brake every week even if i don't use it.

stiil just keeping my eye out for a bargain shame the X.eng brake is a no go without a sye

I looked at the X-brake idea as I have a SYE that it would fit to. It's just that it would also require a custom crossmember to mount the caliper to and wouldn't eliminate the 'lurch' I get from my Detroit.

I think the hydro-mechanical caliper is the way to go. It just requires getting all the parts and working out the mounting. If I had a template I could probably get a batch of brackets CNC cut by a friend. I just don't have the time (or warm workshop) to play around with it all.
