Nah - what you want is a set of Volvo portal axles - about £1500 for both ends - certainly be a first on a GC!

What do you recon on this?
ZJ D35
New Ring and Pinion
New Carrier and Pinion Bearings
New Pinion Seal
New Axle Bearings and Seals
Fitted, set-up and filled with Fully Synth LSD Oil
£365 + VAT
If the Limited Slip is Fubar - New Trac Loc - Add £180 + VAT
If you want to upgrade - New Tru Trac - Add £270 + VAT
Heavy Duty Axle Shafts - Chromoly - Add £200 + VAT
If I had this done would I just blow it again?? Or do you think the Trac options would make it more durable and stronger??

for that sort of money it would be easier to buy a cherry and pick up an axle later on
just my opinion.........

mark you are correct
the bronco 8.8 is a six stud and wont fit as its toi narrow. the explorer 8.8 os only 1.5" narrower than a d35 and is an easy fit and the cherry wheels fit.
dont wast your money on another d35
axle shipping from the states is about $500 so take that into account plus the $300 for the conversion kit to fit the axle on

if it is the LSD you keep blowing then the Truetrac upgrade would be well worth it. I have them from & back in the TJ and great offroad you don't even need to think about when to use your lockers. At JF I sailed up and over climbs that a Rubicon TJ struggled to make, all that with a passenger who had some medical complaint that meant I couldn't shake or bounce the car too much so we crawled it rather than booted it.
As to their strength they certainly look far more substantial than an LSD so it may take even you a while to break one

with the cost of the work and the extra bits say the shafts and a Tru Trac,
that 8.8 of Scotjeeps looks a very good option from where i'm sitting
yes if you had the work done it should be tough but if you put a 8.8 in it would be bullet proof
i would being saving the pennies for the ford option
if you spent the cash on the 35 and it did go bang again you would be kicking yourself

as woody said the tru tracs are a great bit of kit
got them front and rear as well, love them
you just need to weigh up the cost of both options

Checked out some US stuff too recckon the 8.8 explorer route may be the way to go
Are they the same as UK explorers- presume so so there's the scrapyard option to cut costs

Basicly I think Im fucked! £528 is my limit, and I only get that when I sent the knackeded diff back as a whole unit! Aint got a penny more than that. Most of the other options I seen would cost more, or need the use of the old diff housing which has to go back!
Guys, I just dunno what to do for the best

Thanks for that Manda, looks nice, but aint got anywhere to keep it, dont have a drive or garage as we live in a terrace. Fight enough with the neighbors over parking spaces
But I appreciate the thought mate
So whats the dif between a ZJ diesel diff and a ZJ petrol diff? DO the petrols have 35,s in them as well?

The only difference (as far as I know) is the ring and pinion gearing.

Owen - what exactly has broken? is it the LSD or the ring and pinion...?
There's got to be a different way apart from replacing the whole axle.

Right have spend the last few hours trying to find a garage that will look at it! Here in MiltonKeynes the garages look at my ZJ and say "What is that then?" and the amount of places that said, "Sorry we dont do rear diffs" but have found a place whp will open up the diff and tell me what is going in in there
If I only knew more about this kinda thing I probably could have been on my way to sorting it out
Emily sudgested that If I need a replacement part in the diff and not the whole thing the firm who sold it to me might be willing to help pay towards it as it may save them a few quid in refund and collection!
